i think that pirating games is stealing but on the other hand the games are 60 bucks. not everyone has 60 bucks to spend on a game.  So they use this to get games for a hell of lot cheaper. you can spend 100 dollars for all the parts and disk for 10 backups and pirating or you can spend 60 on a game.  It is a money thing.

People who can't afford the games should work. I can't afford a car but I don't go out and steal one. Oh, I don't think I can be bothered buying a HDTV, I'll lift my neighbour's instead.  dry.gif

Just because they can't afford it doesn't give them the right to steal it. So some people can't afford another game this week, you know some people can't afford to buy food this week.

If you can't afford something you should work 'till you can. If not, then tough shit, you don't deserve that game. Sometimes you can't have everthing and anything you want, life isn't like that.

I'm not promoting stealing or anything of the sort, but you have to understand the way people think when they do pirate things. For example, in this case, when someone pirates a video game either for themselves or someone else, they might have already made up their mind not to purchase that item. Therefore, the industry technicaly hasn't lost any money. Until a person's decision is swayed from wanting the game and buying it to wanting the game and copying it, the industry has not 0 profit.

I somewhat agree to the earlier comment stating it's a "money thing". But as Ozy stated, you can't go around stealing everything you can't afford. I understand that the industry charges a lot of cash for video games these days. But these price tags will never go down as long as piracy continues.

Well I don't mod my console because of XBL is all I use it for. But got to admit I do have a huge collection of games. I just rent them and keep them lol. Cost me like $10 to rent and I get the real copy not some damn pirated copy.

There should be an option "No, because I'm a n00b and don't know how."

I don't think they'll add an option just for you!  laugh.gif

That's kind of narrow minded!   Perhaps you have money flying out of your ass.   I can't afford to replace a disc that I've already bought.

Exactly my point, no matter how the discs get wrecked i still cant afford to rebuy games. When i had a ps2 (before i had an Xbox) i had well over 40 games for it and when it started to break it wrecked all my discs, if they were backups i would have been able to just get another ps2, but since i couldn't afford to rebuy a console and over 40 games (~£1600 worth) i ended up going with the Xbox, and i backed up all my original games on that too.

It'll suck if MS does block me from live, but ill just have to get another 360 or LIVE account.

I haven't modded it yet.  Too much hassle, not enough benefit.  If a more featured mod comes out with homebrew support, I will.  Plus I'll wait for my warranty to expire before I do anything to it.

Besides:  Cracking the security on the DVD drive is a possible avenue of attack for homebrew.  Just because they don't have homebrew running on it yet doesn't mean they aren't learning a lot by working with it.

Not really much of an avenue since without circumvention of the main board security you would still have to be able to digitally sign your own software. Plus, all the drive hack does is allow you to run code from recordable media which has a media flag which only allows itself to be run from pressed discs. If we were creating our own homebrew apps then we wouldn't exactly enforce a media flag that stops us from running the code from our own media. Would we?

So the drive hack actually helps us in no way with homebrew. It is, in fact, just a tool to play backups.

That'd be the illiterate British people you're referring to then? (Unless i've made a terrible mistake)  jester.gif

The only people who say cheery-o are Americans who think English people do, and the stereo typing films we get thrust upon us. Damn you Hugh Grant! laugh.gif The same as every other American on LIVE saying 'what-o cup of tea mate' whenever they hear my accent. Sooooo short sighted it hurts.Going by that mentality I should say 'yee-haa, ride em' cowboy' every time I hear an American, but that would be a little small minded and immature of me. Wouldn't it?

Very true, and unfortunate.

Maybe you need to play Live a little bit more with Americans.

The American on Xbox LIVE: 12-year old screaming racists

/me hopes one day we will have homebrew on the Xbox 360.  I check the news page every day hoping to see that on the front page.  Devil360 and Avalaunch on the 360 were my most exciting news posts - but at the same time the most dissapointing.  Devil360 went unexplained, somebody should have said what happened.  Avalaunch on the 360 , running on a devkit, wish that would have been posted to begin with, gave us false hope only to let us down again without a real explanation.  Still nowhere closer to homebrew.  sad.gif

So, for the dvd hacker...

When you burn a game, that you "wouldn't have bought anyway" and it actually turned out to be pretty good... I bet the first thing you do is go out and buy it, right? I'm sure of it.

We'll, I bet its because you are going to college, which is free, and you have plenty of time to research the hack on that free computer mom and dad bought you. Then after your class, you lay down the books that are roughly the same price as a cheap car EVERY SEMESTER, and head over to that free xbox 360 and play your boot legs. HA

Or maybe, its because you don't have a job?
Well... I have two suggestions for you:
1. Ask the poor supporting loser supporting you to buy your game. Maybe they can subscribe to gamefly for you. Just be sure to ask nicely and wear some knee pads.
2. GET A DAMN JOB!

But I suppose that makes some since and a bunch of bull shit about money and not really stealing and probably an infinite amount of other excuses are easier to make up then to actually buy a game.

And on a final note... how many GOOD games are actually out for the 360? Jesus, I can think of 3 or 4. Most of you bums live at home. If a game sucks, don't buy it. Why waste the hour or two or more (unsure of how long it takes to rip and burn or download a bootleg, but it can't be some trivial amount of time) to *back-up*, HAHAHAHAHA,  Alaskan Adventures. Weiners...

All American, BABY! IPB Image

There is a fine line between modding and pirating. If you don't know the difference then maybe you shouldn't be on this site.

When I buy my games at the EB Games near my house, they offer me scratch protection for $3. No matter what condition the disc is in or what I did to it, I can go in with my receipt (I keep it in the game case) and get a shiny new disc, no questions asked.

With an option like this available, saying you're using the firmware hack for "backups" is B.S. I'm not even sure I'll chip my 360 when homebrew becomes available. XBMC is more than good enough for my needs.
