Did You Mod Your Xbox?
« Reply #75 on: October 30, 2005, 09:39:00 AM »

I've done all three

My first Xbox was an old 29 wire homebrew chip...
my 2nd Xbox had an enigmah... then I upgraded my homebrew to an Xecuter 1.1 for a bigger hard drive and later both of them to X2s so I could could upgrade my bioses.

Past that I've done mostly TSOPs and one or two exploits just to try them out.

I'm a big fan of a completely stealth install. Meaning that once a console is modded it should run unsigned content as if that was it's original function.

Because of this I don't really care for exploits, it's a hassle and it's a fairly fragile install.  It's an interesting technique and it has some benefits but it never felt like something that should be a permanent solution to me.

IMO TSOP flashing is the best solution 90% of the time. The only times I think you should use a modchip over a TSOP is
1. If you're using a V1.6 Xbox
2. If you want to use XBL and homebrew/backups on a V1.2+ Xbox
3. If you want to use one of the newer X2 bioses on a V1.2+ Xbox
4. If you want to use a Character LCD
5. If you're a developer and need the bios management options a modchip provides

Despite that I think it still makes a small number of people... and certainly some of those reasons aren't worth the $60+ some people pay for their chips when their are fare more inexpensive solutions.

TSOP flashing is free and IMO the amount of functionally you really gain from a modchip is minimal in comparison.

Still I voted Modchip just because that's what my first mod was.

modchip in one, softmod in the other. hehe i purchased an x3 just so i can alter the boot movie =P with nkpatchers 10+ and uxe softmods are quickly becoming pretty amazing. i just hope the 360 has some nice holes left for the wondrous exploit folks. these boards are filled with some truly extraordinary people

softmod, the idea is to play for free period. if i'm going to go spend money i had might as well buy all the games and support the companies so they can continue to make them.

but hey, everyone has their own taste and i say do what makes you happy.
