QUOTE(Janglez334 @ Jun 4 2010, 09:00 PM) View Post

I've decided to upgrade my Xbox running Unleashx with a new HDD in a few days. I found this Western Digital 500GB EIDE HDD at Best Buy for a good price and I'm very interested in purchasing it for my Xbox. I'm curious to see if anyone can tell me if this hard drive will work in my console? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks

At a glace it appears to be A-OK. I purchased a similar drive (if not the same one, can't remember) from BestBuy for a soft-modded xbox a while back. There was no issues and no data loss or anything. I'm 90% sure it was the same drive.

Yep, You will be fine. A buddy of mine bought one of those same drives from Circuit City before they closed their only store in my area. Matter of fact, for some reason, the box never got tossed in the trash and I'm looking at it now. He had me install it for him, which is why I ended up with the box.

this should work, i have a 500gb in my xbox

just remember you need the correct bios to support over 137 gigs.
137 will go to F: and the rest will go to G:

also, when you install the drive you have to install xboxpartition and reformat the drive into 32 bit clusters. instead of 16. you won't notice a difference at first but when i didn't do this things started to get really screwy when i tried to copy stuff, this happened when i was half way on space.

although, i haven't been around these forums in a while so i'm not sure if this is necessary to use xboxpartition anymore, i know if you install the hard drive with slayers evox you'll have to do this.

XBPartitioner is, and probably always will be, required for large drives. The "rule of thumb" is to use it on any drive larger then 250gb.

You need the latest version of XBP (1.1) to deal with partitions larger then 500gb. 1tb partitions don't work. The largest hard drive installed thus far is 2tb (using two extended partitions), though in theory a larger drive could work by assigning some more drive letters.
