Xboxhdm 2.2 Problem
« on: May 22, 2010, 12:22:00 AM »

update*   in the boot menu where you select SLAX GUI, there is a tool for checking hardware, my HDD has a 'missing MBR' message... i have used the GWSCAN bootdisc and wrote zeros to drive and run every check and all have shown no errors, the drive shows up in windows, fdisk and Gparted, but not SLAX...
any help at all is appreciated

Try enabling IDE legacy option in your motherboard bios.

has anyone  else had this problem?

i have formated the drive as FAT16(partial), FAT32, NTFS, EXT2, EXT3 and XFS(for the hell of it) and SLAX would not recognise it each time. i have tried with AHCI enabled and disabled

think it's time for a replacement hdd?

i've been searching online for any info regarding this problem with no luck. SLAX can't see my PATA hdd no matter what i try. i downloaded the regular slax, burned it to disc still could not see the PATA drive.

i'm using a SATA dvd drive BTW.

i'm perusing several WD 120-160gb drives, but don't want to spend more money unless i know it will work.

can anyone tell me of their success(or lack of) using a similar set-up to mine. do i have to prepare the drive in any special way for SLAX to recognise it?

thanks

If it is established stock SLAX cannot detect your PATA hdd, it's time to move on and look at other methods of doing a softmod hdd upgrade. Check my sig for details.

i've had a look at the options in your signature, they look quite overwhelming.

for xboxdumper do you literally type 'xboxdumper prepare \\.\PhysicalDrive1' (provided your drive is disk1)?

all i get is this output:

Syntax: xboxdumper <list|dump <FATX filename> <output filename>> <XBOX image fil
e>
Syntax: xboxdumper <create <XBOX image file> <partitionsize in MB>
Syntax: xboxdumper <mkfs   <XBOX image file>
Syntax: xboxdumper <cluster <XBOX image file> <sector number>
Syntax: xboxdumper <listpartitions <XBOX image file>
Syntax: xboxdumper <prepare <XBOX hdd dev> <partition type>
Syntax: xboxdumper <preparefg <XBOX hdd dev> <partition type>
Syntax: where partition type is value of 0, 1, 2 or 3
Syntax: partition type 0: F partition is capped at 137Gb or less
Syntax: partition type 1: F partition occupies all space
Syntax: partition type 2: G partition occupies space after 137Gb
Syntax: partition type 3: F and G partitions splits space evenly
