Ive got lots of free space and tons of bandwidth on my webhost, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in an Xbox Wiki. I just finished exams, so now Ive got tons of free time. So, any takers?

Maybe help work on one of the ones in progress?

http://wiki-scene.co...title=Main_Page
http://xguides.xbox-.../tiki-index.php

There may be more, but those are the two I know are most well known...

I've found that the biggest problem with wikis is that no-one knows how to use them or cares enough to learn  laugh.gif

If you're interested in adding content, feel free to create an account on mine and just start posting stuff.

I had some grand ideas of how it could turn out when I first created it but they were quickly shattered when I found how lazy people were. 9 out of 10 people would say "yeah great site ides, but you should make it a forum instead of a wiki"... laugh.gif the whole site is a wiki... if I wanted a forum I would have made it a forum. Forums are great for discussing things but horrible for organizing known data... that's what Wikis are for.

Heck even just the other day deakfreak asked me if i had some server space where he could put one of his tutorials while his site was down. I pointed him to my wiki and he ended up putting it some place else because the wiki "was confusing and seemed kinda dumb..."

I guess the internet at large just isn't ready to deal with wikis, I still think it's a good idea.

As of right now I just use it as a mirror for a lot of my tutorials and guides. Mostly NON-Xbox stuff. I'll probably be adding some GameCube and Saturn stuff in the coming months.

I'd definitely prefer seeing an existing one used.. that to start up yet another wiki.

Yeah, I wouldnt mind learning the new wiki code, its just that Im horrible at organising data, so if people were to say 'post this... blah blah blah' Id have no problem turning that into wiki-material. Damn lazy people eh. Great to see you still around twisted, havent seen or heard from you in awhile.

I have a link on the main page for Media-Wiki's syntex, it's pretty easy to grasp IMO, I'd never used a wiki before and I figured it out in about 5 minutes. Also it's the same sofware used by Wikipedia so you have lots of reference material if you see a page layout you want to duplicate.

As for knowing what to post. I have a few pages laid out like this:
http://wiki-scene.co...ry:Xbox_Cooling
http://wiki-scene.co...ry:Xbox_Backups

That are essentially lists of links to pages that don't exist yet, feel free to pick a topic and start writing.

yes awesome beerchug.gif

You might want to also add some detail about making sure it wont interfere with the installation of an LPC based Xbox Modchip.

... Then link to a new non-existent page for "LPC based Xbox Modchip"  wink.gif

Another thing is to place the page in an appropriate category. So you could add "[[Category:Xbox Cooling]]" to the top of the page and it will automatically link it back to the "Xbox Cooling" category.

Good organizational structure and Referential links are two things to keep in mind when writing for a wiki.

Great work so far though, feel free to port over any guides of mine you happen to come across, or better organize anything that's already on the site. beerchug.gif

I always tell myself that I'd contribute to that Wiki, and I think I've told twisted that too at one point lol. I'll get around to it... unsure.gif

I think it gets easier as you go along... when you start out with NOTHING it seems like a bigger undertaking then it really is and it becomes something you'll "get to later"

once it's caught up with the times it's easier to browse around and pick out mistakes or out of date techniques, or make additions etc.
