AH thanks dude. Saved my day! Just one question. What is a crossover cable?

It's a wire that looks exactly like the network wire you use. (The one that plugs into your Network Card on the back of the xbox or on the back/side of the laptop).

The wire is the same as one you would use with your router and laptop.

The only difference is the wires in a crossover are changed in a few spots and harder to notice for new users. The pins have a few wires moved. If you look at the tip carefully you will see the color codes are different compared to a regular network wire.

When your buying one, make sure it STATES it is a crossover wire. Otherwise for a new person it's harder to tell and you don't want to buy a regular network wire.

Just today i made a xbox controller - usb cable. So i can plug in flashdrives and keyboards and stuff. But ya, can you make one yourself?

You might be able too.. but i wouldn't recommend it. It's not a easy process because first all you need to know which pins to move them to and they may not stick in properly once you open it up.

I would say just get a cross over cable. You never know when you might need it again and they aren't that expensive these days. Better to go with someone good when your dealing with connections.

While re-wiring a cable is possible, it's not worth doing unless you're gonna just re-crimp an end plug. Cutting the wires then reconnecting them may lose you a fair bit of bandwidth, as certain pairs of wires need to be twisted together within the cable to decrease electromagnetic interference.

That's not quite the correct wiring for a cross cable. Refer to the diagram at the bottom of this page.

I can't think of any method to remove then re-attach the plugs on the ends of the cables. They're designed to be attached once (via a cable crimper), then never removed. They can't be crimped twice, and putting them back on a cable after crimping would be far from easy.

You'll either need to cut open the cable mid-way and re-join the wires (which as mentioned, may result in an inferior cable in terms of transfer speeds), or get a new plug and a crimper to attach it with. The crimping tool is probably only worthwhile if you have a high demand for new cables - it allows you to make 'em on the cheap, but the tool itself isn't really worth buying for just one cable.
