Update Software / Look Of Forums
« on: March 25, 2006, 08:49:00 PM »

I appreciate the work you guys put into the site.

While browsing the Internet, I came across a forum page with a mouse over popup window that previews what the post is.

Here is a URL you can look at to see exactly what I am talking about. I think this would be great and faster for users. When trying to help others, I can put the mouse on the link and see what the topic is about and know if I have looked at it before.

Thanks.

Sorry, the link was working when I posted. Their Forum site is down right now. Here is the link to the main page, http://al7bar.tk/ .

When you do a mouse over on X-S, you get the created date. What the other page does is display the first 6-8 lines of text in that message.

I think this would be great, especially for some of the non-descript posts you see. For example:

Question?
Xbox

N00B Here
What Do I Do?

Doing a mouse over would let you know if you could help the person or learn fom what is going on faster.

Another suggestion, could you make it so you can expand all replies to a question? I like to read all replies and it would be faster than clicking on each one individually.

As I said before, you guys are doing a good job with the site. It takes a lot of time and talent to keep this running. I am just glad I can share the knowledge I have with those trying to learn.

BTW, you guys used to sell T-shirts. Do you know where I can find one of them?

Even if you can't see the other site, do you understand what I am asking?

When you mouse over a post now, you get the date created. I am asking
that instead of the date, it shows the post. It doesn't have to be the entire
post, maybe 6-8 lines.

I haven't seen the "I Love Chancer" thread in a while.
I feel like bumping it.

overclockersforum.com does what he is saying, and it is up.
They use vBulletin Version 3 though.

Must be firefox on my machine. I just tried it again and still server not found.
I think I know the kind of thing. CPC have it and when you mouse over a picture a bigger view of the picture appears. I guess you mean the same but with a text box.
The only thing is if it is that system is I find it distracting as  boxes appear as I browse or scroll a page, blocking some of the content until I mouse off the particular hotspot.
Edit
Works in IE. Must be a firefox thing

http://forums.al7bar.tk/ works for me with both Firefox 1.5.0.1 and IE 7.0.5335.5. The way their site is setup is annoying. The hotspots are too big, but http://www.overclockersforum.com/ is done right. The hotspot is only the text not the whole row.

I believe this (links below) is the mod to which the original poster is referring.

Mod Link
Thread Description Link
Demo Link

What I feel would be a really nice addition to this board is to add an RSS feed to every forum, and configure the feed to broadcast the 10 most recent topic titles. This way a person could add their favorite forum feed to an RSS reader, then they could quickly scan the 10 most recent topics of those various forums.

Moderators would probably find that feature to be extremely useful. Though adding an RSS feed to over 100 forums will be quite the task. Maybe start out with the most popular forums and see if its well received.
