Hello mods.  I have an idea as I do not know how reporting works.  Do you guys get a copy of the post that is reported at the time of the report?
Just now I reported some dude who's first post was asking about piracy, after tearing him apart for it.  He promptly edited it to "lol."  In my opinion, when a thead it reported, it should be replaced with:
****Report pending****
or something like that, and the person should not be allowed to edit the content in question from it to avoid getting in trouble.

Thanks.

i remember that post

the best thing for you to do in those situations is either:

A: not reply to him at all (at least not within the 15 mintue window he can edit)
B: if you do reply quote his post in yours so we can see the original content
C: quote his post in your report

at least when someone does edit it shows they understand and wish to abide by the rules, better than ones who just start rattling off about "free speech" when they get told the rules, lol

15 minute post edit window.

You click Report and the mods leading that forum get an email.  However, the poster may have time to edit said post before then.

So, before I was a mod I was sure to:

1) Quote the post to keep it "on record" as at least that gives us a starting point.  Yes, that can be fudged, but most mods tend to believe decent members' stories.

2) Quote and Report.  The less said to a pirate the better, as you have seen.

I appreciate where you're coming from, and perhaps the Admins will have more to say, but imagine if every jackass spammer on these forums could Report any given post to make it "pending"... Sounds like a nightmare to me.

Good post/query though. smile.gif

At least him editting it gets the illegal post off the board. That's the real thing anyway. We don't want piracy. He editted his post and voila, the piracy talk is gone.

Okay, sounds good.  Thanks for the help.  From now on I'll quote the post in my report and on the board.
I wasn't sure if I should quote it in my post, though, as I wasn't sure if it would be a violation of the rules.
Yeah, on second thought, the PENDING thing now doesn't sound as good.

Happy reporting everyone!

It's easy to mess with quotes so people could abuse that ohmy.gif

I assure you that a ban wouldn't be requested just for quoted text (which can be faked, as you has been shown).

But, it does raise eyebrows and make one take a look in that member(s) warning logs to see if there have been other instances, or note it for the future.  Either way, it scares them off and keeps them from screwing up again (generally).

And as Rylinkus said, as least the post gets taken off the boards.

Don't know what was there before, but it's gone now. smile.gif
