Yes, the console can recognise drives of at least 2tb. Perhaps more.

However, the maximum you can really use is 2tb, as the largest partition you can safely define is 1tb (and you can only create two such "custom" partitions).

Error 09 means the console is having trouble communicating with the drive. This probably indicates a problem with the SATA adapter. Try some different ones, even of the same make/model - they're pretty variable in terms of reliability.

Error 16 means the console has forgotten the time, and can't boot the original MS dash in order to ask a user to fix it (without certain hardmods, the console will refuse to do anything else until this is done). Insert a working HDD, set the clock, then try your suspect model again.
