Xbox Compatible Usb Keyboards Etc (2010)
« on: April 18, 2010, 12:37:00 PM »

I'm not aware and have not heard of any list listing working USB keyboards/mice. All usb keyboards I've ever tried have worked personally.

I can tell you the wireless Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.0 works.
doubt that helps though  laugh.gif

USB keyboards/mice/drives are "generic" devices, meaning that if one should work, they all should work.

Sometimes companies release models that don't quite fit the standards. Certain systems may reject these. If no one's gotten around to making a list of keyboards/mice yet, that probably means the vast majority do in fact work fine (the only people who bother to come online and state whether their's are working are the ones who are having problems - everyone else doesn't think twice about the matter).

But! For what it's worth, I have a CG-2015M keyboard that works fine. No idea when I got it, it would probably be sometime back in '06?

The thing was bundled with a very small optical mouse (a travel version with a retractable cord, not very comfortable for long term use), which had no ID on it other then the LAZOR brandname. Looks similar to the SO-2029, which was probably made by the same company, but my one's rather more rounded in shape.

I also have a Microsoft optical mouse (X800898), that works fine, too.

I assume you were talking about this list? It seems that combos (where both the keyboard and mouse are attached via the one cable) are indeed unreliable under XBMC. This is probably because they're using a USB hub, and support for those is somewhat limited outside of Linux (which, as usual, follows completely different rules to everything else).

The number of those know not to work on the the Xbox is at least as many as those known not to have problems. Again, there is an easily found wiki list which details around 50 non-working USB flash drives/storage devices.

A much more extensive list, yes. Which has a lot to do with the point I was trying to make - people have put a lot more work into the drive list due to the high failure rate; the lack of such a large list for keyboards/mice indicates a high success rate.

(Said list does note SanDisk issues similar to the ones you're having, by the way).

50 blocks, that's roughly 800kB isn't it?

It's exactly 800kb, give or take a capital letter.

For what it's worth, I use a 256mb Cruzer Micro. I was able to copy an entire build of XBMC on there via XBMC's own file manager (which contains files in excess of 5mb), as well as a copy of Krazie's NDure installer via the MS dash (which contains files in excess of 2mb). When I was using it in FAT32 format, XBMC would have trouble copying certain files off it, but I suspect that had more to do with XBMC then the drive.

But it still doesn't explain why the 2GB SanDisk works correctly for the other guy and not me.

My bet is he never used the drive for any purpose beyond initial softmod installation.

I have the USB keyboard designed for the Playstation 2 and it works perfect. It even has blue caps/scroll/number lock led to match the front LED on my xbox,

For what its worth I have had the same troubles with many USB storage drives. Buggy copies, failed transfers n such. my solution was to just use my modded 1gb memory unit to hold XBMC/emulators n such to copy onto a freshly modded box and not use it to copy files ONTO the memory unit itself. Inconvenient but it works for me.

I've had one out of 5 flash drives work like they should, and I can't remember what brand was the working one because it was long ago.

As for the USB keyboards and mice. I'd say just go to your local goodwill or value village or a pawnshop or something like that and buy a cheap keyboard. Worst case scenario you're out 5 bucks. You may even have a better chance of it working since you're likely to find an older keyboard that was made before all the 'fancy' specs that have become standard.

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'll just have to not spend too much, take a gamble and hope or the best.

I had an idea yesterday that I might be able to adapt one of my spare Dreamcast keyboards for the job. I'm getting advice as I'm not sure if it's possible but does anyone here know if it is?
