Displaying Of Forum Rules For Newcomers
« on: November 17, 2004, 01:37:00 AM »

Even though the rules for this forum are very well documented newcomers and aged members tend to totally not bother to read them and then break them in their posts. There needs to be some sort of way to get these people forced to read the rules before they post. Maybe some kind of pop up before there topic/reply was posted asking if they spoke about piracy or broke the forums rules in their post...this would prompt them to check the rules, hopefully. I'm very irritated by all the constant piracy talks by the beginners and so is everyone else. I think that having the rules more eye catching to newcomers would be helpful, but this is just my opinion is all....if someone agrees with me, then so be it. I know that there are lots of people who just come here to ask one question about there pirated material, but something new may need to be implemented...wheteher it be a combination of words prompting a mod queue or something. Just my thoughts.

i saw a thread like this a while ago.. and i think it was agreed that ppl dont care how eye catching the rules or FAQS are.. they just want to ignore them and ask stupid question.

maybe a week suspension right off the bat would deter these ppl if they make a bad post.
but then they would just make a new name prolly. who knows.

laugh.gif Sorry, if there was already a thread like this started already though. In the end I guess people will push their limits to see how far they can go. Also...you moderators do a great job of keeping this place legal and i'd like to give my appreciation to all you guys for taking the time out of your lives to keep it that way beerchug.gif

I like how some forums have a week long silent time for newcomers. That way, if they do just join to ask a quesiton, they'll be forced to search for an answer rather than just ask the same old, "Can chips let me play backups and get mez the girlz" posts.

beerchug.gif Cheers!

But, really, any chance of a mandatory three day read only period for new members? wink.gif

People will never read rules/faq's/tos/ etc if they dont want to. I never read anything when I join up for new things or install software, etc I just usually stick to my 1 main rule which I took to be common sense and that was not to mention piracy topics because it is illegal.

I never even read the rules for here when I joined up (yeah I know I should have) and yet I have still never broken any of them or been warned. I'm afraid the only thing you can do is let the mods do their job and remove any of the threads which get reported - and they are doing this very well -.

As for where the posts might occur I cannot really say because I only live in the newbie forum and answer almost any question I can, and yea there are always some broken rules threads in there but if I spot them, I report them and chefelf, lordvader, heinrich, etc do their jobs and bin them.

I have also joined a forum with the read-only accounts setup and they did kind of work, although not a great fan of the idea myself - cause I already spent 2 weeks reading the forum when I joined.

So for now I say good job to the mods and hope they continue for a long time yet.
