How To Stop Everyone Getting Scammed!
« on: September 10, 2004, 02:00:00 PM »

I have been seeing alot latley that ppl have been getting scammed for lots of money. So i think the X-S should have it set up to where if you have 50+ posts then you can post in the B/S/T forum. I think that would deture someone of just registering and then scamming. BC they would have to have 50+ posts. And i dont mean, smileys here, "looks good" there, or just bs posts. I mean real legit posts. That would put a stop to all this nonsense scamming and bring X-S back to what it used to be. Tell me what you think. Thanks

That is your opinion, but the 'powers that be' don't agree with you.

For the record I do.

Because they think that post count isn't a true account of knowledge or trustworthy(ness?) And they believe that it would also increase spamming and/or hacking because then people wouild have more motivation for gaining posts... So they can scam.

And if I was a bit unclear before I meant I agree with you

it certainly wouldn't help ... it would make buyers get feeling they are safer if we include this new rule ... which is not the case. Scammers won't mind making 50, 100 or even more posts to scam some people.

Only real solution is close the B/S/T forum ... but many people like it and many have good/successful transactions using it.
The warnings on the forum about the scam risks are clear enough ... it's impossible that people don't see it. If you do a good research on the sellers history it's already a good start.

Also.. I'd like to add that anyone wanting a more "professional" or "secure" trading service is best served by other sites.. and not XS.

We offer the BST forum as a simple meeting ground for like minded people.  Just as in real life.. some of those people are going to try and rip you off.

People need to take responsibility for their own actions, and their own transactions. XS will not make any effort to mediate any disputes.

As for any situation where people want a minimum amount of posts before someone can do something on a forum.. that is easily abused. If the posts are unrated, a user could rack up 100 posts in 10 minutes or less. If they are rated (moderated) then I'd have to add dedicated staff to preview all posts before anyone would see them. This will not work for us either.

Nothing in this thread.. has not already be said 100 times.
