No it wasn't, you were supposed to ask 'why?'
And my response would have been:
'Because we all love how tasty and juicy chicken is, but even if it lost it's taste it would still be nice and juicy'  smile.gif

The Search will be turned back on when we can accomodate it. Until then.. make do with what is available.

Sorry for the inconvience. Rest assured.. efforts are being made.

i was thinking that deleting older posts which are useless and have not been visited in a long time, should be deleted, as well as members who have not posted in sometime, lik 2mths or more

Deleting old posts would reduce SPACE but space isn't really an issue so much as bandwidth.

bandwidth isnt the problem, load on the server is, (load = cpu load caused mostly by searching), reducing the db size would decrease that load.

I think xscene needs a 4 node cluster running these forums... buy tshirts cause that wouldn't be cheap.  win2k datacenter alone...

You can't blanket delete old posts.. as what has no value for one person has value for others.

You also can't remove an account just because they haven't posted in months. Their inactive accounts are a drop in a bucket for the DB.  Removing accounts.. and having them sign on again when they need to is retarded. There is also no fair way to determine what is a fair time period.. 2 months.. 10.. 2 years.

Some of the scenes oldest members haven't posted publicly in over a year.. but actively use the PM system. In fact.. many of the non posting members now only use PM.

Cherry picking the DB for "usefull" info is extremely time consuming with over 1 million posts.

That's not to say that a DB cleansing won't happen.  Changes are happening.
