We don't set a personal schedule that determine.. we are on the site at X hour.. and off at X hour.

We try to set it.. and we try to remove it at reasonable times.

We are human. Slips happen.

to be honest I am of the opinion ~(and have allways been) that the best way to stop it is to close to forum to anyone but memebers

Allow new registrations of course, but at the moment there are 192 guests online and I doubt half of them would sign up if required to do so.

I'm pretty sure that if the search was always on, it would eat up a lot of bandwith and slow the forums down a lot, making it impossible for those who aren't searching to browse the forums. And chances are, most of the questions people search for are already answered in the pinned topics and tuts...

QUOTE (fretyu @ Jun 25 2004, 01:34 PM)
People keep posting the same junk over and over ,but can you blame them?

So first, you may have noticed I'm not as mean to people who ask a repeated question now, because the search is offline so much, so just know as a moderator, I've adjusted my behavior to compensate.

As for why the search is online, this site has really gotten popular over the last year, and between the high volume of people and the amount of processor power a search takes, when there are more than about 300 active users, it has to be taken offline.  We are always working to optimize/upgrade the software and hardware and I hope someday it will be back online.

QUOTE
Well I don't know if there is a right forum but this is where i spend alot of my time.

Of course there is a right forum, and this is most definitely posted in the wrong forum, so I'll move it to the correct one.  dry.gif

I havent been able to search for about 3 weeks, all different times of the day. and the google search never finds anything that i want.

Also i can't keep track of threads that I'm interested in. So i end up loggin in more often, flippin the through 20-40pages every time to look for the threads... and end up reading a dozen more, which happen to be newb posts and i answer them usually if i can.

so you are getting heaps more traffic from me for no good reason, and i still can't find the stuff i'm looking for!!

There have been plenty of other threads about this.  The search is manually turned on and off.  People forget.

Should just get rid of the search button all together, then no one would have to worry about it.

cool.gif, because it means when it's next back online 24/7, it means it's on a new server biggrin.gif. If the search was set on at X or X hour/day then that would be pointless because the server load would shoot right back up to 100% and kill the forums for that hour. So don't bitch about it, wait anyway google works wonders for me. Heck any of you know about www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php to answer all your newbie questions?
