The fact that it ALWAYS seems to be disabled, is annoying as hell, how much bandwidth could it possibly use up?  How much money would I have to donate to ensure it's never off?!?  This site is near useless without a search engine and becasue it's always down, it's causign there to be a billion newb and stupid questions asked cluttering up the forums so that I HAVE to use search to find anything!

It's an endless cycle, no search, makes you have to search.

Can I get a hells yeah?

Seriiously how much $$$ are we talking here? I will gladly raise a donation to ensure it's not off anymore.

IIRC, it's the server's problem (not bandwidth).

It puts too much load on the server.  The servers should be split between Web and database soon, so that might help.

Well if they are goign to get a nother server to handle the strain, then perhaps a server donation fund should be started, unless they already have such a server, in which case, why hasn't it been done :-/

Thing is we are currently using the max. 'normal x86' HW available. So we either have to go to IBM/Sun frameworks ... which is certainly too expensive or we have to split it on 2 (or more) x86 servers.
We are currently working on the 2nd option ... but it's not as easy as it sounds ... latency, security, load balancing, communication, ... between the 2 servers has to be perfect. All this doesn't make the forum cheaper to host either. The forum never 'paid' for itself, but the main site is making more money then what it cost us to host it - so I use that to pay for the forum hosting bills.

Honestly, it's an effort to make things more difficult and kick some life back into the scene.  Afterall, all the information is there... you just need to hand pick through thousands of threads to find your answer.

All in good fun...  tongue.gif
