Frustration With The Scene

This is alot to read.

Summary: People are tired of the often repeated qestions.. as well as many of those questions being from first time posters who've taken no time to search.

Every ACTIVE forum on this site at times have similar problems.. and it isn't unique to CASE MODDING.

The mods will try to move, delete, and merge topics when possible.  Otherwise.. it's up to your guy to not read the 100th time a question has been asked.. or to not make things worse by going off on a new member.  That the job of the moderators.. not the members.

Comments regarding limiting posting privs for a period of time ontil some sort of script is read or a test is passed... won't happen.  Closest to that will be what was done in NEWBIE chat.. by posting a summary of Newbie direction.  I don't want to post that in every forum.

It can't be made as a pop-ups.. so don't ask. (plus.. XS hates Pop-ups.

So.. we come back around to the summary.. if you see posts that are often repeated.. don't post in them.  Some people who don't get any reply at all.. eventually notice the search button.  Since Case modding is a technical forum.. if you spend time posting SEARCH NOOB or other flaming.. all you are doing is bumping your post count needlessly.  Mods may end up adjusting it accordingly.

As for the mods issue.. I'll be selecting new mods in the following weeks.. but not for case modding.  I hve other forums that require more attention.  Those who will be selected will get a PM from me.. so don't make the mistake of asking me for a mod spot.

MORAL: Help or don't help.. just don't flame/bitch. It's not worth your time.

there are lots of different ways you could go about solving it, the best way IMO is to just deal with it.

I'm as guilty as anyone for reverting to the "search damit" post every once in a while but here's what I like to do:

*noob: stupid question that has been answered 100 times before

/me does a search and or gathers links for the answer to said question

*me: look what I found by searching [links] Maybe if you just did a search you could have found them too?

see you're accomplishing 3 things there, first you're alerting them that they should be using the search button, second you're actually answering their questions, and thrid yes you are insulting their inteligence, but they have no foundation to get mad at you because you actually answered their question and they now feel obligated to be greatfull no matter what  laugh.gif

just the sociology classes talking there... rolleyes.gif

that's great.  i don't mind if someone tells me that i'm a dip-shit, just as long as they give me a valid reason and show me that they know the answer to my question as well.

i think that there is a lot of people in the scene.
and its getting full of idiots who doesnt know
anything about the search engine.

please people everyday i see more and more
stupid topics about surreal and things like how
to get out of a rom in xport emus...

please save it. search...learn how to search

because we´re really getting sick of this...
and this is new...like from 3 months to here.
we didnt had this problem so often.

i think that people is not having good use of the
new post button.

dont make post so lightly...
please make good posts.

if ure a n00b . please search...thats the only way
dont make a 1000 posts about things that have been
already answered.

I read a lot of this but not all so if this was said before, ignore it.

But for anyone frustrated by saying the same thing over and over... instead of saying "search" or even giving them an answer just post a link to the case modding faq (that's probably where the answer is 9/10 times for the questions that would frustrate you).  This way, not only do they get their answer, they may actually read the rest and learn more.  Then others who read that post would also see the link to the FAQ.
This is why I wrote that networking guide cause everyday i could almost copy and paste my answers.  Now I say read my guide and I bet when others search cause they are having a problem, they find at least one of those posts where I say read my guide, they read it, and hopefully problem solved...

Anyway, my .02c

I know! Just post links to porn! Or one of those pop up sites that crashes your computer! If we all agree on it, only noobs with stupid questions will get tricked. The key words will be "Here is your answer, sir!", so if you see a link like that don't click it.

Kidding.

tongue.gif ), someday all that will be left is the old questions and us old timers'll say *croaky voice* "I remember the days when there were a new release every week, they don't make emulators like they used to - or bran muffins"

Anyway, I digress...

Under the new software.. that topic should be counting new views.. course.. it isn't directly pinned any longer..

But true.. some people will never read.. and never search.  And as long as people are willing to spoonfeed them.. they have little reason to do either.
