Best way to make sure you have safe transactions, go through Ebay. X-S is not responsible for holding trade agreements.

I know people get scammed a lot in Buy and Sell and I know it's on the edge of being dropped period but what about this as an option (I don't know if this would be difficult but most likely would):

Require a certain post count to start a thread. This would obviously not eliminate all, but most people are scammed because they see a deal that is to good to be true and give it a try. This is obviously their own fault, for not doing research, but incorporating this may help.

Maybe not even post count... maybe just you need to be an active member for a certain period of time?

Or maybe a combination of both? I'm sure this would require a great deal of effort to manage and/or incorporate, but I'm sure someone would be willing to donate their time...

Any ideas?

not a bad idea but I doubt hsdemonz or syrus would agree considering the droping of buy and sell idea

i know... i just think it could survive if there were some more strict rules dealing with who is allowed to sell

There is absolutely no post count that will protect you from someone who wishes to take advantage of users. Post count also being hard to run up these days since most non-technical posts don't count. So chances are people who want to sell legit.. are only going to hang in BST and find that their counts never.. or rarely go up.

Again.. it's not an indicator of honesty.

If BST ever goes bye-bye.. it's not because of the scammers.. as XS has no resposnsibilty in the sales issues there. However.. the issues that are a problem.. are selling backups, satelite hack hardware.. child porn vids. These stick out most in mind.. especially recently.

People using in BST should consider a better code of conduct while using their sale thread. One bump per day from originator.. not the 5-10 I'm still seeing in some threads. Another problem.. is that some have turned their sales thread into a general chat room.. conducting alot of non- sales chat designed solely to keep their thread bumped. <- This will stop.

There are other sore points. BST is full of non-sponsors attempting to gain some of the same exposure on XS as sponsors. When BST sellers use some of the aforementioned techniques to get their threads bumped, or worse.. spam other people BST THREADS, or EVEN WORSE spam other XS forums turning non sale threads into sales threading through blatant self promotion that usually isn't even relevant to the discussion in some technical forums.. (you see the picture I'm painting)

Much of this is a moderation issue. I'm working with our team to find moderation solutions to resolve this.

I appreciate the idea though.. as you know from our private discussion on the matter.

Some have suggested other idea.. non of which we are fond of:

PAY ACCESS: members selling. pay for the priv. This might cut down on some scammers.. but no evidence one way or the other on that. This also goes against a basic tenant of XS policy.. no class systems for members.

VOTE SYSTEM: people can vote for sellers direct.. and have their name show up like on ebay. Well.. that's a problem too. Far to easy to abuse (I can create 50 accounts in an hour and run up that vote using a proxy in minutes) There is also the reverse effect. .of people who simply dislike you voting you into the depths of hell.

BST will be here as long as the moderators can keep ontop of the situation.
