Why Doesn't Your Post Count Go Up?
« Reply #17 on: February 18, 2004, 07:46:00 AM »

let's stop and think for a second! It's better to solve a problem at its root rather than  trying to come up with "quick fixes" for everything. The reason why people ( myself included)  tried to get their pub count up so others would actually listen to what was being said! I have noticed that a high percentage of people here look at the # of post a person made and automatically assume that they are "noobs" if they don't have   one million posts. Some people spam post because of the way they have been treated in the past by the "1337" here (mockingly!!!) and are sick of getting flamed or ridiculed for their goddamn opinions. I started to get into that race and said fuck it and fuck them (meaning you guys) I have more common sense than that! I have also noticed (and made a thread about it months ago) how perfectly good questions and comment turned into flames or no responses however when someone post  "my finger smells like purple" there are over 3 million views and just as many responses! ( no disrepect soc I love ya just using that as an example.. sorry if it offended you). So as you sit there with your finger in your ass and wonder who the fuck am I to come off this way look at his post # I think I have just made my case very load and clear. In addition the solution here is to stop flexing muscle and take the pressure off of those comming up in the xbox scene and stop making tjhem feel obsolete, even though they may ask a question that has been completely covered, grey area covered or not covered at all, point them in the right area if you have the time (HELP!!) THIS FUCKING FORUMS IS HUGE!!!! with so many different area that are confusing.  I still have question that I have asked in the past that have not been answered that has not been covered..... you think I am going to ask them? Fuck No, for what reason? To get flamed. No thanks! And with that attitude and fisious cycle is how the site is going to get stagnant. Fuck it I am out of here.

Well.. I see plenty of people with 1-10 posts who get answers to questions all the time in Newbie and other areas.  When questions are asked properply... and research has been at least attempted.. I see alot of people get answers.

I also see alot of people who make no attempt to search.. and no attempt to research.. and the membership sometimes points and laughs.  That happenes.  And it likely will never change.

Well.. people who look at the post count and ASSUME anything forget the golden rule..  "when you ASSUME.. U make an ASS of U in front of ME"

hmm.. don't like felling disrespected.. but then turn around and make it worse. You are a bright guy.

Apparently not.

Purple fingers posts have their place.. in certain forums. Don't hold that against the membership.

If you put a quarter of the time you did into that post.. into research and properly posting a question in the right area.. and not blatantly running up post counts for assinine reasons.. you'd have your answers.

People been saying that for 26 months+ now.  Every 2-3 months some angry little pissed off guy cries in his milk.. waves his arms in the air.  This month.. it's you.

QUOTE
Fuck it I am out of here.

Promise?  Really? Damn man.. we hardly knew you.  Someone should enter you into the WINE and CHEESE of the month club.

If you got a beef with a particular member.. who has flamed you.. take it up with them in PM.  IF you are upset cause a MOD smacked you down for abusing your post privs.. go elsewhere.  They are just doing their job.

If you have an issue with XS policy.. contact me.

---------------------------------------------------

This just goes to show everything Xeero has said about morons and their post count.  People put faith it in like it's a hoy grail of honesty or integrity. It's not. It's just a counter.  If people want to abuse their posting privs and run them up.. they'll get knocked back down.

If people want to higher.. try and actually HELP someone. Don't do retarded post races to get them up.  As the site gets bigger.. more idiots try this.. and more idiots get banned for it.

smile.gif  No one will ever accuse me of only making informative posts.  But I do my fair share.. and my duties don't allow me the time to post like I once did.

MOD EDIT: (Xeero) What in the world?  No, I wasn't accusing you of post-racing or dabbling in shit posts.  laugh.gif I just put you in the category of people who prefer to make informative, helpful posts (over, say, a post consisting of nothing more than an emoticon with the sole intent of getting your post count up).

ADMIN EDIT: Crazy Renegade mods everywhere....

gotta rip on a mod whenever possible....right?

Of course!    biggrin.gif

But in all reality, people look more at the way people act and conduct themselves on the forum as a sign of intelligence and knowledgeablity, rather than a number showing how many times they've posted...

What we should really have is a Good Post : Wasted Post ratio to point out those who post crap to get their posts, and at the same time give respect to those who may only have 100 or so posts, but actually make relevant posts...

Original Post:

Nothing says noob like adolescent 13 years olds racing their post counts up in useless forums... to achive what? 666? 1000?

God damn.. some mod or admin better respond to this complaint.. goddamnit.

Wait.. I am an admin.. and no one listens to my complaints..

nevermind.

------------------------------------

Alot (most?) POST COUNT threads merged here.

New Post: This will be the dumping ground for any new posts from people who seem to lazy to search on the subject as to why their POST counts stopped going up when they only post in the offtopic and sales forums.

Post Counts in Offtopic and Sales forums.. have been turned off.

Post Counts will only go up if you are active in Technical forums.  If you read this thread.. you get some idea why this was necessary.

Anyone who argues that post count is important.. or means something other than a person has been around enough to post that many posts is a moron.

Anyone starting new "WTF? why does my post count not go up?" should expect to be ridiculed publicly in the forum.

Xeero Made some great points..

QUOTE
Well, the whole rank thing is horseshit. You can put in, what, 100 posts in 4 days in Comedy, and you're a X-S Senior Member. I've actually seen new members say, "Thank you, it's nice to have a senior member pointing me in the right direction".

QUOTE
Because if Joe Asshat thread craps...or sells a lot...or buys a lot...or supports a lot of sales...or bumps his sale a lot...or thread craps some more...THAT is an accurate assessment of his Xbox experience, right?

QUOTE
I like the premise that you really can't complain about it and still maintain your integrity. Go on, try it.

QUOTE
I've said it before and I'll say it again: you really can't complain about your post count without sacrificing your integrity. If you do complain about it, then you're posting for the wrong reasons.

UPDATE (2/18/04): In case there was any doubt.. any threads started about POST COUNTS/POST RACES etc will be merged in here.  Those who are blatantly abusive will get warnings. The moderators also have BAN privilges now.

Why Doesn't Your Post Count Go Up?
« Reply #29 on: September 06, 2003, 11:39:00 AM »

I have thought about this topic for a long time.....but finally seeing the recent events get worse and worse I decided to start the disscusion.
The number of people on this forum who race to increase their postcount rises rapidly. More and more stupid and useless topics like
"Whooo-hooo this is my ***'s post! yeah!"
"Please help me raise my post count to 666!"
"Thanks for everybody who helped me reach my ****'s post!"
began to swarm the forum.
I propose to disable the postcount feature in this forums. Postcount is not the main reason we come to this forum, right? We come here to talk about Xbox, hear each other's opinions, share views....but not what it has become these days. The new people at this forum probably think, the bigger your post count, the more people will respect you. Which is not true by all means. If you are helpful, people will start respecting you even not by looking at your postcount, but by how you post and help. Plus disabling the post counts will show if people are true to this forum or not. Those who will start crying "WTF? Why did you rmove my postcounts??? I had so many...." will just prove that they cared for their post counts more than anything else, like it was a sacred thing for them and they posted just to raise the number. Those people who truly like this forum for what it is won't even care if they have the postcount or not. Because you earn people's respect not by the number of your postcounts.....

What do you guys think?
