A Few Ideas To Improve Things
« on: July 16, 2003, 10:26:00 PM »

wink.gif  [It seems like people do a search and find forums.xbox-scene.com and never even realize there is an xbox-scene.com!]

2. For the Tutorials Page, how about sub-categories? For Ex: You have a section header for Evolution-X. Why not have it sub-categorized as well (-how to install to hdd,-running from dvdr, -configuring menus, -flashing the bios, etc.)? It would really make finding what you are looking for a lot easier on that page... [Especially since the number of tuts has sky-rocketed lately.]

3. Tutorial Guidlines: I know we should be grateful to all taking the time to make a tutorial. However, I think we could improve things by having a "Tutorial Submission Form", or a "Template" that prospective tutorials should adhere to. A standard format to the tutorials would make a big difference, and really take that entire area to a new level in my opinion.

4. "Software Update Page": I know we have a *news* page, and a *software page*, but how about a *software news* page? A one stop shop, where you can click on any xbox app and see what the <current> version is, the project status, where to contact the team, etc. This would prevent app updates from dominating the front-page as well.

I have been a member Since Nov. 2002, this is the first time I have put in my $0.02. Great site, but there is always room to improve  beerchug.gif

Thanks for maintaining such an awesome forum  biggrin.gif

1. Have a link to the Tutorials (located off of the X-S mainpage) in plain view at the top of the page... For instance, next to "My Controls", put "Your Tutorials"  wink.gif  [It seems like people do a search and find forums.xbox-scene.com and never even realize there is an xbox-scene.com!]

This would be nice.. but.. people can't seem to find the SEARCH button.. much less a HOMESITE button.

We may yet end up doing that.. but that will require more work on our part.  Also.. many guide cover MULTIPLE sections.. where would the fit?

A uniform method would be nice.. but currently.. we accept tuts in PDF, HTML, DOC.. and other formats.  Problem is.. some people only have access or knowledge with one app.. so getting them do do things consistantly won't be easy.

Most of our members consider the software updates on the front page to be very important.  As for a decent listing.. try XBINS Applist

Thanks for so many well thought out suggestions.  I wish all were so well done.  We'll be considering some of these.. as some have merit.

I agree to some extent. Maybe add another toolbar, under the main toolbar, with all the "must have links"? I think it would help.

True. But that is why you always have a "Misc" section. And for the most part most things would fall under sections rather well.

That wasn't what I meant... You could make a template and make it available in all those formats... I was referring to having a standard "format", or "layout". This isn't the most important of the suggestions I made, so I will just move on...

I agree. I love the newspage, and like the software updates listed on the newspage. I just think it it would nice to click a "software news" page, and be able to click on an app and see all the news for that app that X-S has ever posted. That would make tracking changes easy when you are out of the mix for a weeks at a time. I know about xbins, and the wonderful resources available, just think it would be beneficial to have it housed on an X-S server as well  wink.gif

Once again, thanks X-S for maintaing the best XBOX related site.  beerchug.gif
