What can I do with this xbox without the use of its dvd drive? im assuming softmodding is not an option since it wont read the exploitable game or the emulator disc I have.

Or Is there a way to fix it? or are the replacement ones cheap?

It's possible to softmod without the use of the DVD drive, though somewhat more risky.

Whether the drive itself can be fixed depends on the model and specific symptoms.

Thanks, ok well it just doesn't read any discs...so im guessing it can't be fixed ?

replacing the laser would probably fix it, if its a thomson its probably not worth that even

My DVD Drive doesnt work either.

My advice is to find a friend who has an xbox and borrow it for a day and switch out the drives for the modding and then switch them back. Once its modded, you can ftp everything without ever needing the drive itself.

Well I have 2 xbox's. 1. works fine and im gonna softmod it soon. And the other just has that dvd drive broken (samsung drive).. ok so if I do that, you can transfer like the emulators & the roms through ftp?

the lasers are cheap enough, I replaced a samsung for a mate last year that cost $30, 2weeks ago 1 of my 3 xbox's Lasers failed (sammy) and I got one from Ebay AU$8 delivered. My Phillips is still working and I got that xbox from new in 2003/04 and has had atleast 2000+ cd/dvd through it. I also did the laser mod on it from new and flashed it's region code.

SDH-605 i think the failed one was.
