I think the point that EVERYONE is missing is that a "community" is self regulating.

I mean, you would not go down to the streetcorner and ask the homeless person for financial advice?  Even though the homeless person may claim to now a lot about it.

Same thing here.    People will disregard crap.  Let everyone speak.  No need for rankings.

if i have free time i do what i have to do for the scene, just today alone i posted over 100 post in a day, not to prove anything to anyone but to help people and even get there opinions on certain things!! if the ranking is going to cause all this negativity because in my opinion o jealousy in some peoples eye's then get rid of it!! just tired of hearing this shit!!

Ok ok...  I like to joke around, but I always thought the ranking system was bogus, I am not sure if I can convince you of this; but that post was a sarcastic post, not genuine elation.

I'll never ever be as good you, or others like Ace or Fuzzy, I do have the time, but not the dedication.  I would prefer that the ranking system is gone.  it is at best a cheap trick to encourage posts, and at worst a way of boosting egos of those that don't need boosting.

I personally have no issues with a ranking/post-count, except that it seems that on most sites, every since post counts become common, the ratio of 'filler' messages to useful messages increased signifigantly.  But in all reality, it'd be hard to prove that post count had anything to do with most of those pointless posts.

If there was a voting system, logically you could weight each account's vote based on a forumla that maybe uses the length of time the account has been opened, compared to the amount of posts.  That would keep people from having multiple accounts to influence the vote, and it would keep people from just opening accounts for future voting power. (If it was just based on the length of time the account had been opened.)

Just my 2 cents.

im just sick of seeing people spamming all to hell being post bitches just to get their post count upped. its pathetic and it wastes my time seeing the same use post 30 messages in the same topic instead of 1 mesage. i could name a few but i think you know who you are. esp. in the commedy forum GOD!!! give me a break. one guy posted a new message for every pic he posted in a funny post thread. and another did the same in a thread about broken english in video games.

this kind of crap should stop, and its partly why i find myself comeing back here less and less often.

I think their should be a team pulled together, of people who really know their shiznit on this site, and they should "knight" members, pulling them up the ranks based on their contributions to the site.

The only problem with this is that it would take a ton of time to sort through every post and figure out who is helpful and who is posting junk... We need A.I. in a big way!

You could always do checking if a user has voted based on cookdies instead. I know it's not the best way to do it, but it would cut down on server load and bandwidth. You could also go ahead with the SQL entries, for a back up, have the site check for the cookie, if not present, get the info from the SQL server and create a new cookie that would be recognized later.... Just a thought...

There could always be options like on some web email services. Have a option under the user's name called "This is a junk post." If a post is junk, someone clicks it. Then you could use that info to filter/block/moniter who is posting junk.

I think it is fine how it is...well If it was taken out i guess i wouldnt really care...i mean its just a kind of fun thing to do...see how many posts u have and when u get the "Xbox-GeNiuS"  it just ...i dunno...lol its kinda fun...but maybe new names?
