Ps3 Drive Sensor - Do You Need It?
« on: November 11, 2009, 12:31:00 PM »

Hi, all i recently just replaced a laser on my ps3 and the wire has snaped on the sensor that sits ontop of the drive (the wire is tiny with red & black wires).

From what i've read alls this is used for is to detect a cd / dvd / blue ray etc been inserted and then tells the drive somethings coming in and automatically pulls it inside the drive.

But this can be done similar if the sensors broke by just pushing the cd / dvd in untill the drive takes over and sucks it in ( a couple of milimeters more than normal).

Question is, is this all this sensor does because if so i'm not bothered about fixing it, but i will if it does any other functions.

thanks for any help as always.

Yes you need it. You are asking for trouble if you do not fix it. The PS3 mech that pulls in the disc is not very robust and will fail if you continue to expect more form it than it was made to do.
