im new to the xbox scene, is it possible to unlock it using the tools and replacing my backed up eeprom on my computer to the hard drive ?

You probably had a virtual eeprom with your softmod.
The steps you performed updated the contents of that virtual eeprom, and your harddisk got locked to those new eeprom contents.

During bootup, the virtual eeprom isn't active yet. So, the xbox takes the hdd Key from the real eeprom and calculates the hdd password out of it. Since the harddisk is now locked with a different password, it won't unlock resulting in an error 6.

The point I am missing is why you had to change your xbox eeprom and hdd locking password in the first place? This only would make sense if you had a chipped xbox, and connect your harddisk to that xbox to lock it for later use in another softmodded xbox.

You could use xboxhdm to unlock the harddisk. (You will need the new eeprom.bin you used with configmagic.) Once it's unlocked, you can lock it again with the hdd password calculated from the old eeprom.bin. (the one that was originally in the xbox before you used configmagic.)

You can do the same thing with the dos tools. You will need to enter the hdd password manually in those. The hdd password is calculated from the eeprom hddkey and the harddisk model and serial number.

You can use the windows liveinfo beta 3 program to calculate the harddisk password from the eeprom.bin.
The xbox harddisk need to  be connected to the pc, so that the program can read it's model and serial number.

The disk is locked with the wrong eeprom. Use xboxhdm and the eeprom.bin you loaded in step b. to unlock the disk.

Without some context it's difficult to see what your friend's tutorial was doing, but in general you don't need to load another eeprom.bin just to change the disk. What were the other steps in the tutorial?

You probably don't need ndure on the xboxhdm disc, but it wouldn't hurt, and only adds a couple of minutes to making the xboxhdm disc. The other option is to use xboxhdm option 4, then atapwd, the select "Unlock With Master Password" and use TEAMASSEMBLY, and for that you don't even need the eeprom.

I'd get this disk working first, before attempting the bigger disk, so you get a chance to get the process polished.

I suspect that obcd got it spot on, and it's a virtual eeprom problem. In that case you need to modify your process to bypass the virtual eeprom before you start. Probably the easiest way is to run E:\ndts\default.xbe, then use file explorer to delete E:\NKP11\eeprom.bin (if it exists), and put a small file called eeprom_off.bin (does't matter what the content is, a blank text file renamed eeprom_off.bin will be fine) in E:\NKP11\, then reboot and follow the process.

I'd still be interested to see the tutorial you're using......

i did that, and then it it confirmed it worked then i pressed esc to quit and it took me to a black screen running commands from A:/

and then i just force shut down my computer and plugged it in back into my xbox and still gives me the error 06

Do you mean this tutorial? If not, which one?

I'm interested because I'm struggling to see why you were swapping eeproms.... unless you were locking the disk in a chipped Xbox then transferring it to your softmodded box - or am I missing something?

Edit: Sorry, my mistake - you need to select atapwd "DISABLE WITH MASTER PASSWORD", then you'll get error 5 when you reconnect the disk to the Xbox.

The closest match Google gives me is this guide. It's not word for word - someone removed the reference to the "CHIPBOX" in the segment mattymoo quoted, but it's certainly the source material.

Note that that's a guide for upgrading a softmodded system's HDD using a hard modded console.

Er, I suspect the replacement drive has been unlocked all along - his friend got him to unlock his original drive, then relock it with who-knows-what HDD key. Why? Who knows. Correct me if I'm wrong, mattymoo.

Anyway, you will need a backup of the console's original EEPROM data.

Grab a copy of LiveInfo and use that to open any EEPROM files you have so far. Each will display a serial number. You want the one that matches what's written on the underside of the console.

If you don't have such a file, attach the console's stock HDD to your PC (which, if I'm following thus far is unlocked and displays error 05 when in the console), and use Xplorer360 (check my sig) to browse it's contents. It may be a proper backup exists on the drive somewhere - again, check any file you suspect is the one using LiveInfo.

If you CANNOT find a backup of the system EEPROM that contains a serial matching what's written on the console, then you have two choices: either build an EEPROM reader (again, check my sig), or install a modchip.

If it was, then you need an eeprom reader to get the eeprom from the motherboard, or you need to fit a chip.

This happened because you specifically messed up the drive locking yourself - manually. Just don't do that again and it won't happen again.  

(Granted it seems you were misled into doing so, my point is that what you've learned from this is likely enough to prevent further issues).
