Only Reading Blu-ray, No Dvds After Laser Replacement!
« on: April 16, 2009, 03:17:00 AM »

My 60GB PS3 wasn't reading any disc at all, so I decided to replace the laser. Now my PS3 reads blu-ray discs fine, but it still doesn't read DVDs! After I insert a DVD (movie/ps2) it shows the reading icon for like 10-15 seconds and then it disappears again. It make a slight reading sound, but not like when a blu-ray disc is inserted.

I already tried a full reset, no success.

By the way, I only replaced the laser, not the mechanics, but since the bluray discs are working I think the mechanics are fine?

I re-opened the drive to check everything just to be sure, but still not working. I also noticed the drive gives the DVDs just one spin, and then it stops (repeating it a few times).

I've had similar issues with pc DVD drives, in which they could read DVDs but not CD's. The different media types require differing focal points for the laser. I hate to tell you, but unless you got a smudge or dirt on your new laser during install, itÂ’s probably bad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I also cleaned the lens after I found out that it didn't work, so that isn't the problem either. Gonna contact the company where I got the laser from, but replies are still welcome!
