White + Y is for "recovery" mode. Unlike eg Windows Safe mode, all you get is that red-text splash screen (and FTP access, which is typically all that's needed for people to "recover").

Typically when XBMC shows it's splash screen then fails to continue, that means either some of the files it needs are not present, or they are corrupted. It seems more likely that the system is just having trouble reading off the flash card.

Try using the recovery console to FTP across all the files again. Might be more successful then using the X3 service.

Though yes, that log would likely shed more light on the matter. Stick it on PasteBin rather then posting it here directly.

Er, the point to using sites like PasteBin is to stop threads getting expanded by dumping full logs directly into them...  wink.gif

Anyway, it seems it doesn't like the database files. Wipe 'em. (They're stored in UserData\database, or something like that).

Failing that, try wiping all user settings by holding in both thumbsticks while the system boots (they click in like buttons).

Although, I have never used Avalaunch or any other dashboard before,..  I was not able to play an MP3 or an AVI file.

Avalaunch is not a media player in the way XBMC is. You won't get it to play AVI files because it simply doesn't have the code to do it with.

Another question I have though relating back to XBMC and the errors in the log, it does fail when loading the user settings, but then it seems to pick up and try to continue the boot, then fails on some SQL related issue.  Is this SQL issue also related to the user files?

The reason it fails to load "sources.xml" is because this file doesn't exist in a fresh XBMC install. This is normal.

The SQL database also doesn't exist. Hmm. On closer inspection, I see the error states that's a possible reason for the message turning up in the log... So I suppose that shouldn't be causing the crash.

Start XBMC in debug mode (hold X+Y during boot), this'll generate some more details in the logs.

Hmm,  that doesn't really shed any extra light on the matter... the only odd looking lines are still those last three. Rats.

I suppose you might as well try copying over that other UserData folder you have. Certainly couldn't make it any worse.

here is the link to a fully working off the rotation hard drive XY log.

Hrmm. Nope, still stumped sorry...

Have you tried completely wiping then replacing the XBMC install from the CF card, as opposed to just overwriting it?

XBMC reads from and writes to a lot more files then any other dashboard. This is because it's skins and features are far more complex then any other dashboard. There is a lot more that can "go wrong".

However, simply put, a clean install of Atlantis should just work. I mean, sure, it's not perfect, but it should boot.

Presumably if you put the standard HDD in the console which currently has the CF card, it'll happily boot XBMC off that? You haven't been booting that other copy in another console?

If so, assume there's some issue with the CF card. Shove it in a computer, reformat the thing to FAT or NTFS or whatever, and do a full scan on it.

If not, then perhaps something else is amiss... Try checking the system time, when that gets properly corrupted it can cause issues with various programs.

You could also try NTFSing the drive, then use something XBPartitioner to do the format on it (as opposed to the X3 console).

Thanks for everyone's help, I am going to call this a done deal.

I tried installing Windows 7 onto the card and it took two attempts and me leaving the card alone for 8 hours over night while Windows7 finalized it's settings.

When Win 7 actually did load, it took about 2 minutes for any mouse click to register, so obviously, this card wasn't meant to support this kind of activity, or else it's a bad card.

But either way, I am done messing around with it I guess.  I am just going to use my laptop drive.

  Thanks again all.
