Ok, I Got A Hard Drive Problem Thats Quite Odd.
« on: April 21, 2009, 04:00:00 PM »

ok, so my last xbox got struck by lightening, causing the picture to be all discolored and wavy, so i bought me another xbox off ebay. i wanted to put my 160gig hd from the last one into the new one, so i unlocked it, and locked it with the password from the new one. however, now it comes up saying error 06, even though, i locked it with the password specified from the eeprom backup. so, after that didn't work, i realized that i was in such a rush to get the xbox working, that when i softmodded the new xbox, all i backed up was the eeprom, but i didn't back up the rest of the files like the main dashboard files and all, and since i didnt know what version the xbox was, i chose 1.0 - 1.5, not 1.6 which is wat i should have chose.... so i thought, ok, ill just put the hd in my computer, unlock it, and rebuild it using the main files off my backup cd from another xbox. so i rebuilt it, and tried locking it and what do u know, it says the stock hd is frozen now. and ive tried leaving the ide cable unplugged from the hd until i get the choices from xboxhdm, and ive tried it in another computer but the cd kept freezing during the linux load up screen. so now im screwed, unless anybody can come up with suggestions....

thanx and please get back to me.

How did you lock the drive (eg what commands did you use? Did you type the code manually)?

How did you get hold of the EEPROM backup?

Load the backup in LiveInfo, and compare the serial number it gives you to the one written on the underside of the console. Do they match?

remember first of all not all hard drives work in xboxs.  also i had a problem similar to yours.  All I needed to do was reburn a new xboxhdm disc.  mine was locking up and not detecting the drives all that no fun.  So I used my backup files on my main computer from my old xbox, build the new image and burned with a program called DVD Decrypter. now xboxhdm worked when I hot swapped with an old computer power supply next to the xbox.  All I had to do was lock it.  Make sure you type in the lock code perfectly if you do it manually like I did.  All I had to work with was a photograph of an xbox screen on my tv, which showed the hdd key info, so I didn't do the backup through xboxhdm

well, see the thing is this, i bought a new xbox because my last one got struck by lightening. when i softmodded it, i backed up the eeprom, but forgot to backup the main dash files, then i softmodded it with the 1.0 -1.5 mod, turns out, mine is a 1.6, so the graphics were messed up, so i went to restore the files to factory, and found out i was in such a rush that i didn't back up the rest of the files. so i viewed the txt file from the eeprom backup, and got my password, wrote it down, and unlocked my stock xbox hd with the password, and it unlocked successfully. i rebuilt the hd with the original files i had from my previous xbox backup, and when i went to lock the hd with xboxhdm, i put lockhd -p and the password, i made sure it was the right password before i continued to lock it, like i always do... then it said it was frozen and could not continue. thing is, i don't have access to another computer with the auto detection thing so i can turn it off. and i had 2 other hd's that were already softmodded and all, and i locked them with the password from my new xbox, even though they are lockable and i have had them in previous xbox's, i locked both of the extra hd's with the new password, and put them in the new xbox one after another but both came up with error 06. one thing i did notice, is when i locked the 2 hd's, they said security enabled, but didn't say security locked. maybe thats the reason why, but how would i solve that? like i said, both hd's are lockable, as i have had them in previous xbox's. so is it my copy of xboxhdm 1.9? or something else?

For what it's worth, a drive is only supposed to freeze if someone tries unlocking it with the wrong code. It should unfreeze when it powers down.

If it stays frozen then I'd blame the PC. Some system BIOS types (PC, not X-Box) are specifically coded to stop people messing with drive locking.
