I bought a maxtor 1TB drive and was successful in partitioning and locking the drive with xboxhdn 1.9. I bought the following sata adapter:

anyway, All is working well with the drive. But the issue is that the dvd drive is not working. If i put anything in the drive it will spin up but bot play anything. I run XBMC as my dash and the funny part is that when a disc is in the drive it recognizes that something is there. I am not sure if the issue is the converter I bought. If I hook up my old 40GB ide drive all works correcly. Any ideas?

I think you already answered your own question.

If you can hook up your old drive and everything is good, and the sata drive is brand new, then this is the only possibility.

I have to agree. I also went back to the site and looked at the specs more carefully. In all caps it says "MASTER DEVICE ONLY SUPPORT". Sigh. I guess I didn't learn that reading is fundamental.
