Well I guess I need to smack my Westinghouse and tell it that it is going against what the "experts" say that a 37" 1080P set is capable of.  I notice that the chart doesn't bother listing what sets they tested to reach these conclusions and what applications that they were testing them out with.  All I am saying is that there is a noticeable difference between the 1080i and the 1080p on my set.  Is it night and day?  NO, but it is noticeable.  @maz57 I got my 37" Westinghouse on a Black Friday doorbuster sale for $800 plus tax.

maybe its not your tv maybe you just have really good eyes ever think of that?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I have not done the tests my self its just all ways what I have heard.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I have the 37" and paid $720 black friday, i love it as a pc monitor and it looks amazing with my 360 i would recomend it highly, as for telling the difference i dont care that much it was a giant leap for me from 20" POS to this westinghouse is amazing for me


also if you live close to a shopko from dec 31st to jan 6th the 37" westinghouse is going to be $799 again (i know im an employee so i can check future sales)

so i'm in the market for a new HDTV...and  yes....i plan on using my PS3 with it.  the two i'm looking at right now are the sony sxrd a2000 models and the samsung dlp models.  however, my question, all this 1080P display is great...but i have noticed that most of the PS3 games only support 720P.  does this mean that that my set will convert display to 1080P or will it mean that the games will only be played in 720P?

right now, my 65" samsung is capable of displays in 1080i, it also accepts 1080i inputs, but when i check the display status when playing my games, it indicates only 480P.  unfortunately for me, this set does not support 720P.  it's one of the older generation HDTV sets.  so i'm asking if the newer  models and upscale even the game displays....

any advice would be great.

I think LCDs will upconvert to whatever their native resolution is. In the case of the sony A2000, that would be 1080p.  It's also going to convert interlaced to progressive. I assume the LCD panel is built of 1080 pixels high, and I don't know how it would only use 720 of them.  That would look wierd on the screen.  I don't know that as a fact though.  Those are just my assumptions.

I think the PS3 was set to downgrade the signal if it didn't find 720p available.  I think that was one of the complaints about the software.  I haven't experienced this problem first hand, but it seems to me that you could set the PS3 to ONLY output 1080i. Just choose custom display settings instead of automatic.

My only reservation with DLP Tv's was the delay.  I don't notice it as much as the first gen of DLPs, but I still notice it.  Go into a store and find an LCD and a DLP TV sitting side-by-side that are displaying the same video. You'll notice the LCD picture changes first.  (It's down to a fraction of a second with newer models, but it's still noticable).  This means that your reaction time in games is that much slower on a DLP TV, because you are seeing what's happening on the screen a little later.  On the first gen of DLP Tv's the delay was something like 1 second.  It made driving and FPS games unplayable.

thnx for the advice.  i tried changing the settings to only accept 1080I, but didn't get a clear image when loading the games.  i guess this will have to do until games either come ready to display in 1080I or i'm ready to fork out $2000 for a new TV.  gotta admit, that last nite while looking things over at best buy and circuit city, i was ready take out the plastic and get a new set....but thought twice....guess i'll wait to see what else comes out and what kind of firmware upgrades Sony have coming up....

btw, didn't mean to "jack" the thread...just had questions that couldn't find answers to....

I have played a 360 on several DLP projectors as well as a samsung and mits microdisplay DLP all 06 models and there is absolutely no delay.

LCD's on the other hand have issues with seek time hence the big deal about 8 millisecond and below seek times, LCDs can also get dead pixels.

If you have some sort of information about how DLPs can have some sort of delay i would like to stay up on the technology.

The only con that I know of with DLP's is the rainbow effect and only some people can see it, luckily i am not one of those people.
