Dvd Wont Eject After Hdd Was Hotswapped
« on: January 20, 2009, 02:09:00 AM »

I performed a HotSwap to rebuild my Xbox Hard Drive recently.

Everything worked wonderfully untill I did another HotSwap ( so I could load a SoftMod ).

Since then, the DVD drive tray won't Eject ?!?!?
(and the HDD wont Unlock either).

It would load up to the error screen with a fault code '11' (DVD not found).

But the STRANGE thing is, if I plug in another PC Hard drive, the DVD tray works again !?!?!

I have tried replacing the IDE cable but that had no success.

Anyone have any ideas ??

It sounds to me like you have damaged your HD. Any given hard drive has X number of hotswaps it will tolerate. I think you have reached this number with your HD. The dead HD is effectively disrupting "communication" on the IDE cable which in turn, is preventing the DVD drive from ejecting. This is confirmed by your restoring the ability to eject the DVD tray by connecting a PC HD.

Replace your HD.

*EDIT*

There is one other possibility tho. You may have bent a pin inside the HD IDE connector but if this is not the case, your HD is dead.

Thanks 'xboxmods2977'.
I like how you put everything so bluntly :)

I figured the HDD was toasted.
But whats interesting about that, is when I plug the Xbox HDD into the PC... the BIOS detects the Xbox HDD correctly. (But of course it springs the usual error after wards due to the drive locking).

Anyways, I guess now that I have to install a new HDD, I have no option but to install a Mod chip too right ?
Since the Xbox's default BIOS expects a 'Locked' HDD with the matching keys.

If you never backed up the eeprom.bin to the PC then you will need to use a mod chip to install the new HD. You can use a solderless chip and remove it after getting the HD going. If you plan on leaving it in permanently, don't use a solderless chip, solder one in.

The other option is to build an EEPROM reader. The parts are usually "closer to hand" then modchips are, though the process is a little more technical.
