128mb Xbox Debug Kit
« Reply #1 on: December 22, 2008, 05:11:00 AM »

As far as the debug xbox, I cannot say what it is capable of  as I know nothing about these xboxs. I would wait for someone else having more experience with these to chime in.

But, using info based on a normal xbox, I can say this:

Most homebrew applications (xbmc, mameox, gentoox, etc) will use the extra ram without any extra steps from you, however, you will need a bios to detect it. I couldn't tell you right off hand which bioses support 128mb ram. The only thing I can suggest is to grab the newest bios you can find, like evox M8 or the xecuter 5035.

Also, There is a patcher program that will remove the 64mb ram limit from any .xbe that doesn't already support 128mb ram. I believe it is called the Ram Delimiter. Should be in the download section somewhere.

Hope I helped.

PS, I would kill for one of those xboxs, but ain't gonna pay a gazillion dollars for one. I'll just wait longer till they come down in price.

The EvoX BIOS range does not support the additional RAM. X2 range does - use X2 5035 if you can, use X2 4981 otherwise. Note that if you get rid of whatever BIOS the console is currently using, it won't act as a debug console anymore. Consider backing that up before overwriting it (ditto for the files on the HDD).

Supposedly XBMC doesn't use the extra RAM for who knows what reason. This is kinda odd, considering that the devs added the compatibility at one point, but they're the guys who says it doesn't so make of that what you will. It'd be dead handy for those who like to use high quality skins, fan art, high resolutions... The stock 64mb often causes crashes if people try to combine these things together.

I know Surreal uses it, but XXX still doesn't let you set more then 16mb for ROM caching (which is, for example, half the size of Smash Bros, so the emulator still has to use a swap file and still runs that game slow. Just not as bad as it'd otherwise be). I've still got the source code on my PC ready for such time as I can be bothered tinkering with it... Dunno if non-XXX is much better but I do know it handles memory management differently.

Unfortunately the motherboard I upgraded died a few weeks after the upgrade and I went a few months without a console. I've been hesitant to put my new rig at any risk whatsoever because of that, so my personal experience is rather limited.  laugh.gif  Run088 has upgraded plenty of systems.

RAM Delimiter is supposedly only for retail games. No one seems to know much about it. Every now and then I do some research but I always end up forgetting.

Garou (the largest NeoGeo ROM in existence, to my knowledge, it's something like 95mb) runs near perfectly under FBA-XXX on a non-upgraded console, so I doubt any other games would benefit from the extra memory. I hear MAME puts it to good use though.

Some 2002 consoles are 1.2 models (256kb TSOP), and a debug console is probably outside the usual rules. If you can boot a game save exploit (such as Krazie's NDure), you can use the dashboard it loads to help determine the version (prior to installing a softmod). NFI if there's anything different when softmodding/flashing debug systems, again, make a ton of backups first.

Slow your roll.

There are other factors to consider. You have a mcpx2 chip not a mcpx3 chip which means that you have a different encription key.

The debug console is already modded in a way since it will play unsigned code.Look around for info on the debug box there are alot of things that box can do that no other box can.

If you insist on modding it I will swap you one ready to go like you want with a mcpx3 chip which is exactly the same as yours with a different encription in the mcpx.

It would be a crime to change it and there may be some issues with the mod you need to get panned out before you continue.

I dont own an original debug so I could not point you in the right direction for you to do what you want.I just know I have done a little research on the subject of the debug xbox and I believe there is a little more to it than that but I could be wrong.

And you cant run that 007 because a debug will not run linux atleast I have not found a way yet.

Now that you mention it, Run, that reminds me of a thing or two re program signing...

Retail games (eg 007) are retail signed. Debug consoles won't boot them but standard unmodded consoles will.

Standard homebrew built with the XDK (eg Surreal) is debug signed. Debug consoles will boot them but standard unmodded consoles won't. I suppose this means the system should boot off Auto Installer Deluxe or something?

The Linux community refuses to use the XDK for legal reasons and hence their code is completely unsigned. Neither debug or standard consoles will boot it.

Modded consoles don't give two hoots about code signing and boot whatever you throw at them.

There is some special debug software that runs on debug consoles. This basically lets the console "talk" to the XDK (running on your PC) while running a debug-mode XBE (as opposed to a debug signed XBE). You NEED a debug BIOS running in order to use it (it's quite possible to turn any console into a debug system if you have all the files).

I doubt you'll find these files on X-Bins, though, but a few web searches for "xbox debug files" minus quotes should give you plenty of info.

Catch is I've never actually tried messing around with the debug code/BIOSes, so my knowledge might be a little suspect. But I'm sure you get the gist of things.  smile.gif
