Xbox 1.5tb Hdd Working But Not Staying Partitioned?
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:01:00 PM »

I just recently upgraded to a 1.5tb SATA HD, It seems to work fine with XBMC as an operating system, unfortunatly it shows just one large drive with 1.5tbs and im afraid if i start to transfer files i will get corruption. I have tried formatting (3) 500g partitions with XBpartitioner but everytime i restart it shows up again with 1.5tb in one partition again?? Does anyone know if i can fill this one large partition up or will i have problems?? if not what should i use to partition it?

Xbox V.1 with X3 chip
Seagate 1.5tb HD

Thanks

hey man is the 1.5tb all in one drive? I'm not really experienced on these things but you should have a C, D(but that's the cd/dvd drive), an E drive for saves, an F drive which contains the first 100GBs of the remaining space then the G drive which has to be unlocked first to free up the rest of the space. I softmoded with evox then installed UnleashX as an app and I cant remember the rest but I managed to unlock it using a button combination.  What program did you use to partition it? For mine I used Xboxhdm 1.9 for my 320 gb HDD. But there was another thread in which a guy managed to install a 1tb HDD into his xbox.

NVM I found 2 links here:

An actual 1.5tb HDD in an Xbox:

The 1tb HDD I was talking about:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=648145

But be careful when installing new HDD and Im not responsible for any damage you do to you, your hardware/software or anyone or anything else. I just thought I'd help out.

You have to partition with XBPartitioner 1.1 - it's the only application that supports formatting of large (>256Gb) partitions.

You can't have 3 500GB partitions - C and E are effectively fixed, so the only ones you can mess with are F and G.

You can't have a 1.5TB partition either - from memory the maximum partition size is ~1TB (there's a thread on this, but I can't find it at the moment!)

So you'll need to split the 1.5TB into F and G, with neither partition larger than 1TB. You'll also need a BIOS that supports non standard partitions - I've seen X2.5035 menioned, but have a look through the second thread that red_ring_of_box linked to, it contains a discussion about BIOS support.

The "standard" F partition is 137Gb, not 100Gb, and the G partition is quite happy on locked drives. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Xbpartioner 1.1 locks up every time it starts on my HD, the only one that will work is Regular Xbpartioner but unfortunatly everytime i reformat it, even with 750gigs on F and G it will still reset itself and show up as 1.5tbs when i restart???

What BIOS are you using? Some types (eg X2 4983) ignore the special "custom" partition schemes XBPartitioner uses. X2 5035 works but I get the impression X3 BIOS types are a better bet with an X3 chip (though I know nothing about how they handle partitions).

I will check and see what bios im using when i get home from work, I know they have to be some type of X3 bios because its an X3 chip with the X3 startup screen.

I think you need to go to X3 Config live, and select Disk Tools - New Hard Drive Upgrade - Use Saved Partition Table = Enabled to get the BIOS to read the partition table from the disc. I can't check because I don't have a spare drive at the moment!

I'm surprised that XBPartitioner 1.1 doesn't work - I have an X3 with X3.3294 BIOS and it works fine. If your BIOS is older you might want to update it, in case that's part of the problem.

Ok im in the options screen for the X3 bios now and I have enabled "Use saved partition table" now the only other option im not sure of is set LBA048 options and my options are:

Standard Partitions (Xbox Stock Hard Drive)
F Drive gets everything - No G Drive
F Drive upto 137gb - G Drive to get the rest

Not sure which one to use as none of them let me partitions to less than 1tb

Also I'm using build 1777 and Kernal 1.0.501.1

do the F and G option, although since xbpartitioner will be generating its own partition table it shouldnt matter what you pick, as long as it uses the on-disk table

Update from X3.1777 to X3.3294! Anything before X3.2914 doesn't use the on-disc partition, according to the release notes......

Just a couple thoughts here.

Where is it exactly that you are looking at the partition sizes?

Are you sure that you are performing the partition/format actions in XBPartitioner 1.1 before you exit it?

This is a SATA drive with an adapter. Have you had any other issues with it? Like booting problems?
