Hey guys,

Recently got a PS3, I have avoided buying too many games as I have a 4 year old that loves to eject discs!  This is painful to see when you get home and games/movies are scratched.

I recently purchased F1 2010, great game (anther thread)

My buddy told me about the PSFree etc...

I ordered the Mini USB Development Board,

Once I get it up and running, would I need the disc in all of the time, as well as the board.  Once it copies the game over can I put it out of reach?

In other words, to play the game from the hard drive, do I need the board in the usb slot and booted up properly and the game IN the drive everytime I actually want to play the game?

Any help is appreciated, I apologize and understand if this thread crosses any lines.

I prefer HDD based application (ie. Tivo etc.. over DVDs and such) and want to know if I am wasting my time.

you need to update to the new psgroove and backup manager in order to play games without a disk. If you do that then yes you are correct you do not need a disk. And each time you start up the ps3 you need the the usb board in it.

Another thing you need to consider is what system firmware is your console on? I think that new F1 game came with the 3.42 update. If that is the case then you may as well forget thing whole thing because your console cant do the jailbreak hack anymore anyway.

When I put the game in and played (half way through a season) there was NO prompt for an update (not sure if this is the case like the 360 is) and I have verified that the firmware is 3.41.

Make sure you keep it at that. This means no more PSN but worth leaving it behind anyway.

I assume that it will stay there (pending on game updates).

Not even sure what the PSN is anyways, I am in the sticks and have very spotty internet reception anyways.

I borrow it from the neighbor who has satellite. hehe.

Ok, so I got the board today.

Easy set up, got it to load, used the most up to date versions.

I copied over the 3 games I have:

F1 2010
Ferrari Challenge
GT 5 Prologue

Yes I know my game choices are very slanted to one way

2 out of 3 boot fine with no disc and play just the same (fast load times!)

F1 2010 boots, and as soon as I get into the Menu it comes up with "No controller Connected"

The funny thing is I CAN USE IT TO QUIT etc....!

I tried switching controllers and plugging one in, no luck.

Any thoughts?

hey gshockdan,

that is a known issue with F1 2010 but there is hope on the way!!

Hermes just released v2 of the payload that would load on our chips. So right now we are just waiting for the port of the hermes payload v2 to our chips, then your F1 2010 copy should work fine.

Actually, I hear Hermes' new payload is broken, but people have been getting F1 2010 working by using OpenManager 1.3 instead of the typical BUM. I'm sure if you do a quick google search you can find one that's already compiled. It has an option to patch the game on-the-fly so that your controller will work.

I can't seem to get it to work, not for lack of trying, but lack of time.  I will wait until the dust settles and play it off of the disc for the time being.

I do like the anticipation that I have though.  With all of this happening, the potential is huge.

I still to this day use my Xbox MC modded original xbox for the little guy and his movies etc...

I see this going beyond that.

Thanks for all of the help guys, I will keep updated where I can and hopefully this community streamlines its efforts together and works for one or two keys, programs etc.. and build strong reliable ones.

Too funny, I have it working flawlessly now.

FYI, here is what I did.  This is for F1 2010.

I had open manager installed with files going to /oman45678 (or whatever)

Deleted the game, deleted Open Manager 1.3

Re-installed F1 game by disc (where it puts roughly 1gig on HD)

Re-installed Open manager (going to the other directory (****12345 can't recall the exact)

Installed the game in open manager to internal,

put in patched mode and played.

No controller issues, etc...

My car actually goes quicker off of the HDD (joke)

Not sure if this will work for anyone else, but works for me.
