Currently Have Ps3 Firmware 1.50
« on: November 26, 2007, 09:44:00 PM »

With all the recent developments, is it worth it to hold on to 1.50 firmware?  It seems you need to downgrade to firmware to at least this level to be able to mess around at all with the ps3 insides.  any expert opinions?

Well I am no expert but I don't see any reason not to upgrade to 2.01.

I was in the same boat a few months ago till I upgraded  to the latest firmware.
It's like I had a whole new machine, I could play every new game, go to the PSN and download games.
If there's ever a homebrew loader there will also be some sort of downgrade option available.

Upgrade and enjoy your PS3.

only pirates have still interest in staying with fw<1.54 but the hacking pressure for that has almost reached zero, so their waiting may last forever.

homebrewers have now everything with the recent discovery of RSX access (gives 70% of max power of it, that's enough, since anyway complementary SPU usage is absolutely necessary to obtain more power than on 360). RSX access is based on a hole that can be closed. But the chance there is someone at Sony that decides to close it is very very small. This hole doesn't lead to piracy. Hole still exists in fw 2.01.
