Possible PS3 TIFF EXPLOIT Found (FW 1.9)

Thanks to Team PS3HAX, and their leader, H3R3T1C, they have released of what is now a new possible PS3 Exploit.

The new TIFF might be our ticket to a ISO Loader. By copying the TIFF image (download below) to a USB/SD card and opening it in the PS3, causes a unusual response in which the PS3 controls and XMB are still fully functional, and ables you to launch a game. The game will not launch completely but it allows a delay for a disk swap in which after swapping you remove the USB/SD card and the swapped game will boot without any errors!

How to use this exploit:
1. Put the .TIF on a USB (download below)
2. Put a game in the PS3.
3. Insert the card with the .TIF exploit and go to "Photo icon" ... let it load.
3. Try to start the game and it should just lock up.
4. Take the USB out and the game should continue loading.

This potential TIFF exploit has been tested on firmware 1.31, 1.80, and the latest, 1.90. Posts your results below and let us know if it worked for you and on which firmware you tested it on.

Here is a youtube video thanks to  isoliketheps3

Hmm...interesting.  By "swapped game" do they mean another original, or a backup?  Maybe I'll try a backup of one of my PS2 games and see if that works...
I expect firmware v1.91 will be out some time this week because of this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

This is probably pointless unless a mod chip comes out, because Sony is just going to fix it and you wont be able to play the latest games because you will be forced to update or not play them.

Agreed, firmware specific hacs suck, when i had my PSP it was such a pain to keep up with all that stuff. A proper chip for any system would be sweet titis though.

Just like MS and their forced kernal updates, bummer, hopefully they well figure out a way to stop the updates and still be able to play new games.

We need something like the PSP's Dark_Alex firmwares for the PS3....that would be really nice.....

I guess I don't understand how being able to lock up the game mid-load and then continue loading normally offers opportunity for a disc swap.

the reason discs swaps worked on older consoles is because they were stopped at strategic locations after the disc passed security but before the game code was entered.

Despite the fact that this "exploit" locks up the disc at an unknown point in the boot process means it's highly unlikely that it's being stopped at the proper location. And even if it did, the discs data is encrypted meaning that the validation would be for the wrong disc and swapping discs in such a pedestrian manor would just deliver garbage to the console.

confirmed as not working for any backups.  (read:  This is utterly pointless, and not an exploit in any fashion.)

Its expensive but. There is a modchip for the PS3. Its worth a try. If possible this week i will be getting it installed. $200 for the modchip. Around 80 wires to be soldered to the chip.
