How To Bypass Upgrade Step With Recent Ps3 Games
« on: May 17, 2007, 05:59:00 AM »

Trying to give proper credits...

1st discoverer: HackITandC (posted on May 15th, 2007 on another site)

Using Resistance Fall of Man:
1) load up "resistance fall of man" and PLAY game (if you have it delete the online update)
2) push start (pause)
3) change disc (wait 5/10 seconds)
4) choose save & quit from menu

2nd discoverer: KroKis (same thread)

Using F1:
1-Put your F1 pal in and go to MULTIPLAYER menu.
2-In multiplayer menu press "back" ("X" on my sixaxis)
3-When game answer for confirm back to F1 main menu, eject F1 and insert any game.
4-Confirm (O) exit of multiplayer game and your swapped game now works.

Example:
You have PS3 fw 1.00-1.51 and you don't want to upgrade it.
Oblivion normally refuse to start, asking to upgrade to 1.54.
By loading Resistance Fall of Man (US version requires 1.10 and PAL version requires 1.50) or Formula One (I have no details about its requirements) first then swapping, you can play Oblivion with 1.50 fw.

Some very recent games may refuse to work if they actually need
a new feature only existing in very recent firmware.
Region of console and game may not matter at all (except for ps2 games).
Firmware 1.00-1.70 seems to tolerate this swapping trick. Next one may not.

Side effect:
Directory name for saves is for example, BLESnnnn where number=game ID.
So they got saved/read in the wrong directory (but it's ok if you don't mess).
So, if you already upgraded to the firmware required by game, if you play it straight or play it after swapping, you won't see same saves (not same directory).
