Putting Working Hard Drive From Broken Xbox Into New Xbox
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:11:00 PM »

heres my problem:

i have a hard modded xbox with a 160 gig hard drive full of data i do not want to lose, lets call this hd OLDDRIVE. partition F is all i really care about, that's where i had my music, videos, etc. unfortunately, that xbox is toast so i can no longer access this drive. fyi, hd is unlocked so i was able to hook it up to pc and browse with xplorer360.  but i can't see partition F with that tool so i can't get to those files....

heres what i want to do:

i bought a new stock xbox which i want to softmod using splinter cell exploit and then stick in my OLDDRIVE.  i'm familiar with the softmod so i dont need help on that (thank you to everyone that worked on the tutorials on that). what i need to know is how to get that drive in there without losing any data on F.  every turorial out there talks about upgrading a soft mod to a new hd, nothing about an existing formatted xbox hd.

would this scenario work?

1. get eeprom off of new xbox via soft mod
2. create xboxhdm iso with eeprom from newbox
3. hook up OLDDRIVE to pc, boot xboxhm.
4. generate hd key
5. lock OLDDRIVE
6. stick in newxbox and boot

i'm hoping that would do it since it's not too complicated but i have no idea so i need your guys advice. other thing i though about is just rebuilding partition c. or maybe selecting create new xbox drive and just tell it not to create f partition.

thanks in advance.

That's broadly how I'd do it. You'll need to rebuild the C drive with a softmod image, and put the softmod dash, NKP11, etc. on the E drive before you lock it, otherwise it won't boot in the softmod Xbox.

However - I'm only guessing that the xboxhdm script DOESN'T mess with the F drive. There's no reason why it should, but you might want to do a bit more digging, just to confirm......

Alternatively you could just copy the files across manually using Xbrowser, then you can be certain that the F drive is untouched.

You can specify whether you wish to have XBoxHDM format F.

What version is the new system? Anything prior to a 1.6 can have it's TSOP flashed, which provides effects similar to the installation of a modchip - You won't need to lock the drive, nor install a softmod on it.
