Rumor: Ferrox Ps3 Iso Loader!
« Reply #15 on: March 24, 2007, 03:05:00 AM »

This last video, is probably the 1st video and shows a path a bit different than the "install other os" path. But it's the command just above "install other os" command.
I couldn't identify it clearly.

About dates:

February 5th 2007 : ferrox exploit story revealed in locked thread
February 28th 2007 : Firmware update v1.54

So it took Sony 23 days to close the security hole. If this story is true. I think it is.

Mmm... I smell the possibility to patch yellow dog installer in order to obtain yellow dog linux running with hypervisor inactive... (on firmware<1.54)

I don't know if this is relevant, but they have changed the way to install linux on FW1.6.

QUOTE
The "installer" no longer needs to be downloaded from this website. The PLAYSTATION®3 system software can directly install the "boot loader" that is saved on the storage media. Note that the location of the otheros.bld file on the storage media has not changed.
You no longer need to create a partition for the "other system" on the hard disk.

Mmm... nice finding...
The installer is really the vulnerable piece then... Site even mentions 1.54...
Better study otheros.self now...
