Actiontec Ethernet To Wireless Adapter
« on: February 03, 2020, 04:01:00 AM »

Alright so I just bought an xbox package to mod for my roomy, and it came with the adapter. It says that it is compatible with game consoles.
So I can connect it to a pc and open up a web interface to set it up, but I have no idea what to put in the settings to connect to my wireless network. Xbox is unable to detect it in the xboxdash.

Anyone know how to set one of these up? Possibly through XBMC or some other xbox app?

BTW, my network is WEP enabled, and the setup has an option for it, but I can't figure out if its for adding a WEP to the device, even though that seems wrong. Its able to connect to the wireless, but doesnt ask for authentication (this is from the pc of course.) But it wont connect to my network drives either...

Actiontec Ethernet To Wireless Adapter

None of your Xbox apps can detect or configure a third party wireless adapter, you have to do it from your PC.

You give no details of the Actiontec device, but I'm guessing it's this one.

You need to configure the adapter to talk to your wireless network. You need the SSID for your network (the name that identifies your wireless network) and the WEP key, and you can get both of these from your wireless router. They will be the same values you used to connect your other wireless devices to the network. Under "Basic Setting" make the following changes:

- set the mode to "Infrastructure"
- enter your wireless SSID
- set Authentication to "Shared Key"
- set WEP Key to 64 or 128 bits, to match the settings on your wireless router
- enter the WEP key from your wireless router into WEP Key 1

You might need to fiddle with the Hex/Decimal selection to get this to work.

Then under "IP Setting" select Fixed IP, and give your adapter an unused IP address from the same subnet that your home network uses.

Power cycle the adapter, and if you got the settings right the wireless LED should turn green, then blink intermittently, and it should now allow your PC to connect to your home network and to the Internet. At that point you can unplug your PC and plug the Xbox in to the wireless adapter, and if your Xbox is configured correctly to use DHCP then it will obtain an IP address, and you'll be up and running.

FYI, I got all of the configuration information using google to get me to the manual for the device. You might want to read it through before you go any further....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
