First take the torx bolt out slide the face plate off and remove few phillips screws. Take the metal cover off the top of the bd drive. Then remove the top plastic cover and unplug the sensor. Secure it down with a couple screws. Then cut a circle (with a plastic cutting saw bit) on the top cover. Your face plate now slides back over to allow swapping and still keeping the PS3 looking clean.

Boot the PS2 DVD and wait for it to load. Now hold the PS button and quit the game. Slide your cover back and push down on the disk secure magnet. It will stop the laser, but not the spinning. swap disks and press circle(jp) X to boot your backup.

Tested with 1.10 firmware, swap magic confirmed unplayable with 1.31, but this exploit is unconfirmed with that version of firmware. Swapmagic is only needed for PAL conversion and CD backups.

People better make sure they use good media. You wouldn't want to replace that Blu-Ray laser or drive. Imagine how much that would cost.

Congrats on the hack. Hopefully a HDD hack will arrive in the future.

They used the exact same bad sector thing they did with PS2? Reminds me of the Nintendo "hack" where all Nintendo did was change the capitalization of a password. I imagine a tool could be made to simulate this on HD copies in no time... I mean I'm sure it's not as simple as it seems, but conceptually, it's almost a cakewalk from here.

This is a hack ONLY for PS2 games. I am sure that PS3 games have a completely different type of protection.

I just realized, why would you want to play ps2 games on the ps3 when it looks and plays worse than the ps2. tongue.gif

It could be handy for people who owned a chipped PS2 and sold it for a PS3.....now they can play theyre backups....w00t!

I dont know about anyone else, but the description given doesnt make a lot of sense....I think ill wait until there is a good tut on how to do this before i give it a try.....

Generally when you have a device that had the power of the PS2 and you try to run or emulate it on a device like the PS3, the quality and functionlity is greatly degraded.  I doubt that the quality or capability is that great.  I just have not seen true live play action.
