Hope you can finally understand, noob.
I think you might have totally missed why bucko found your post funny.

I don't see why the PS3 with all its power, Blu-ray and built in hard drive would need to bother about using a compressed video format like DivX for in game cut scenes. I'm also not seeing why this is a "one up" on the Xbox 360?. I don't think it'll really make much difference with regard to "better load times, less power consumption, and less heat output". Who is Danny Mendez anyway and why do we care what he thinks?.

PS3 one ups Xbox 360 with its DivX support

Xbox 360 one ups with DivX support now.... and not a feature that's not available yet. I'm still waiting for the "emotion engine" of the PS2...

Actually PS3 one up's the xbox360 on media player support simply because a properly installed and configured Ubuntu (insert linux distro here) plays far more than the 360, without linux though I wouldn't have bothered buying one.

If you're not enough of a geek to run Linux you should probably stick to the 360 (Unless you want to buy a machine that still works in a year).

I wouldn't trade my PS3 for 2 360's I have to say but I'm more a PC gamer anyway and my PC kicks the ass of both the PS3 and 360 so there.

MKV is a container like AVI not a codec.

So the PS3 is going to trump the 360 in terms of Divx support...?  This only leaves one question:  When?

MS announced they were adding Divx support, and released it shortly thereafter.  Sony announced they were adding it, and well...nothing yet;  only more promises.

It's a disturbing trend this generation.  Sony trumps up the capabilities and potential, but has issues with delivering on the promises.

I'm starting to agree with a post that I've seen elsewhere on the net:  Sony = Soon...Only Not Yet.

Again an article that proves Blu-Ray is not needed for games....getting my PS3 at Xmas..can't believe games are going to be using Divx for cut-scenes instead of MPEG2 uncompressed....

I am going to bet that the Divx support will be used more in the downloadable content rather than on the Blu-Ray disc itself.

They could have the downloadable version of the game use less space if they have the FMV in Divx rather than MPEG2. Faster download and less hard drive space used.

I also see this being used in Home. The advertising / game trailers will be streaming Divx instead.

Depends, PCs definitely have power but they are simply not as reliable in terms of stability.  I got Orange Box for my PC and already have gone through 2 random crashes to desktop for no reason.  My computer has plenty of power for it.  Other than that, the game plays fine (except for some steam issues) but I'm still thinking that I should have gotten it for the 360.

Who the hell cares about a PC in this discussion?  Most people aren't interested in putting a PC in their entertainment centers.  That's why so many people are interested in having devices already in their entertainment center being able to play various types of video.

90% of problems on PC are caused by other shitty software installed on your computer, or Viruses, Adware & Spyware.

Yes most!  But that doesn't make it the smarter choice.  With a PC you need not worry about codecs. You also have the choice of what interface you want.

But hey itÂ’s a personal choice.

"While the Microsoft's console can only playback some DivX files, the PS3 will get full DivX functionality"

So the Sony hype machine is up and running yet again.

Tell me - if the above is true, why was the following listed in the recent 2.10 update:

"[Divx] Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played. - Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played."

So how is that full functionality? I'm happily playing 4GB+ Divx files on my 360. According to the update, the PS3 can't do this.

1 up for Microsoft if you ask me...

Not only that, I have a divx file that works fine on my 360, but won't play on my ps3 (says unsupported).
