Ps3 Hdmi & Fiber Optic Support

No? I didn't say anything about whether the analog video would work alone; there's no reason to believe that it wouldn't and frankly it's irrelevant to the situation. I was just wondering if the problem was with the optical out irrespective of video out. If your friend has already traded in the PS3 then that's fine, but I thought it would just be interesting to find out more information on the problem.

Ps3 Hdmi & Fiber Optic Support

Now did I say anything in regards with whether analog video would work, I stated that I didnt think of trying fiber optic digital out with any other video format.  What makes hdmi and composite unique in comparison to the other video carrying cables is hdmi and composite both carry audio signals as well.  hdmi carries a digital signal on one cable and composite carries analog signal on seperate red and white cables.  I never thought to try different video carriers, since the problem could of been his ps3's ability to send out two seperate digital audio types.  More likely than not, his ps3 isnt recognizing the fiber optic cable and thus is not allowing the audio to be changed from hdmi to fiber optic.  Using component cables along with fiber optic may have solved his problem but I didnt think about it at the time.
