What iv done is taken the ports out of the xbox and replaced them with the front usb ports of my computer case, then used the xbox ports on the front of my computer case.

I only need 2 xbox ports on the xbox.

yes, this will work.

just make sure you connect the right wires, if you are planning to use it as an usb port as well. It is also important that the ground wire is connected to the shielding of the cable and not one of the signal wires.

You will have 1 extra wire in the xbox cable. Just leave that disconnected. It's not used on controllers.

Have you ever thought about wireless controllers?

The best place for cheap cables is Ebay.

Thank you.  Dad probably knows more about the shielding and ground wire but I'll look it up quick.  And I know the yellow Xbox wire is useless.  Can I leave it there or should I cut it down further?

But, by shielding, you mean the foil thing over the wires?  If yes, should I even cut the black wire in the Xbox controller cables?
