if i were to buy a ps3 soon, should i expect 3.41 firmware or is 3.5 in stores already?

not sure on the normal ones, but I got a Move Edition bundle and it has 3.40 on it. I'm going to use that as a backup in case something happens to my phat.

Well, if you're not sure, then ask if you could test the PS3 right there in the store and see if it has the FW you want.
I would suggest going as to early FW update as possible, because it is possible to update to newer ones, but impossible to revert. 3.41 is the limit, so don't accept anything after that.

I think it you can get the 3.5 firmware now, because I heard someone can buy the dongle for 3.5 firmware of PS3 game consoles

160 gb versions, Killzone bundles, Call of Duty B.O. bundles all usually have 3.50.  Still able to do what you are looking to do with them.
