Houston We Have A Big Problem. Pro Help Needed.

Your EEPROM data is actually stored in a chip on the motherboard. Some softmod installers extract this data to a file on your HDD so you can copy it somewhere safe. It would appear your softmod installer did not.

I would recommend resoftmodding with Krazie's NDure installer. You pretty much follow the same process as before, but this one should rip the EEPROM data as part of it's installation.

Alternatively, you could copy ConfigMagic to your console and tell that to make a backup for you. It'll store it on the root of the E partition.

The EEPROM data is used to lock/unlock your drive. The console won't boot with an unlocked drive.

Note that you could always hook your X-Box into a network with your PC. If you currently have no LAN setup at your house, just grab a great long crossover cable and string it between the computer and console. Then XBMC can play your videos straight off the computers hard drive, using a standard share.

Granted, though, the stock X-Box HDDs are tiny for the purposes of storing games...

If I am not mistaken you can go into your file manager find the save game you modded with and relaunch the original softmod screen from there and it will have the option to back up eeprom.

Install Evox and then there is an option in the EvoX dashboard to "backup." By choosing that it will backup your Eeprom.bin to the E: partition of the xbox.

Ftp into you xbox and get the Eeprom.bin

Are you at the EvoX dashboard?

If so go to settings or something...I dont remember exactly where it is, but there is a backup option in EvoX. Just try to find it

Ok, I suggest you completely remove the softmod and the save files from the xbox to make it completely stock again. Use this GUIDE to remove the softmod properly

Then once you have removed it, just start over

Xman954 wrote an application with the purpose of taking a backup from the xbox eeprom.

You know how to ftp to your xbox. Just Google for the application, ftp it to your xbox to the apps or games folder and launch it. It will create the eeprom.bin for you. The available options in the evox dashboard depend upon a configuration file. Maybe the Backup option isn't enabled in your version.

regards.

Good luck...Get back to us on what happens

EDIT: I believe that application is ConfigMagic that obcd is talking about. And I forgot about Evox's config file...that is most likely your problem. So do what obcd posted...

there is no emu folder per the guide... should i be bothered by this or will it not matter?

That doesn't really matter. You can just make it yourself anyway

No,

I wasn't referencing to Configmagic. I read so many times in this Forum about people messing things up with that program, that I surely wouldn't recommend it. It is a small tool xman954 wrote. The only thing it does is backing up the eeprom. (Maybe you can restore one as well.) It was written without the use of the xdk. Xman954 put's his xbox tools on a file sharing site.

ok.   i setup your xbox like mine.  easy as can be to get your eprom.bin file now.  restart your xbox and go to applications in the evox menu and load the only app it has in there.  then go to System Utilities then go to Backup and it will backup your bios and eeprom.   now restart the xbox.  ftp in to your xbox and go to e:\apps\flash\backup and get your eeprom.bin and download to yer pc

Oh...I've never heard of this other program before. I've used ConfigMagic many times with no problem. As long as you don't do anything dumb it's safe (like changing your console to PAL/NTSC)

And for any apps just look for them in Xbins. I don't know why you don't have them in your list...You can try ftp'ing into your xbox and see if you can find them in the apps folder, but if you don't see them anywhere just get it off xbins

i figured that i had nothing to loose by over-installing the softmod, as well as overinstalling unleash x. i thought 1 of them would have the files i need since i'm over my 30 file a day quota off the xbins site.

so i over installed them both and sure enough one of the two had the files.. not sure which one did at this point but everything over-installed and resetup the files.

now all i have to do since i have everything that i need... all i gotta figure out is how to put the bigger hard drive into the system, get the XBMC to auto start and get the games and emulators to list properly under the folders that the dashboards provide...

thank you everyone for your help.
