you are correct.. here is the funny thing.. I'm not sure how ndure's mod work's exactly but is the c drive locked? i cant transfer files to it and it seems to be hiding them "shadowc" I seen that while the drive was partitioning and xboxhdm was doing its thing while building the current 8 gig drive.. does that mean the c drive partition is locked? if its a backup feature so that in the event of a dashboard malfunction it starts ftp then that's fine i will leave it be or is it just my computer and ftp program?..and one other thing i don't have an f or g partition just C,E,X,Y,Z that's all,

how do i enable the the other partitions? oh and the poster " ldotsfan " i don't seem to have an E:\NKP11 to transfer the config file to.. i downloaded the zip you advised me to, configured as you instructed and ran all the "make"files but the resulting default.xbe that nkp11 made is only like 22 k in size and i know my xbmc's defualt.xbe is over 7 megs... is it just a "bootloader" ? to instruct the xbox to load from different partitions and directories, and where do i put the xdmc defualt.xbe i cant leave it in the same folder with the new one with the same filename can i? .I'm kinda hesitant to transfer it over i don't want to have to build the whole hdd again until i upgrade to the larger one..the readme is a bit short and not the best instructions i have read... i would like to get this drive the way i like it, image it and then transfer it to the new larger drive.

if someone would like to instruct me on how to properly install this "nkp11" and its accompanying patch, please do i don't want to screw this drive up..

1. Real C drive is not locked, it is hidden from view, what you are seeing through ftp is the shadow C. This serves 2 functions: to prevent the softmod from being overwritten by a dash update and also to prevent newbies from messing up their softmod unintentionally.
2. To enable F (and G drive if you need it), you need to do 2 things:
a. Format the partitions with xbpartitioner or the dash depending on the size. If bigger than 256Gb, use xbpartitioner. If you use the stock 8Gb hdd, no F or G for you.
b. Enable the drives in your dash.
3. You are mixing the instructions for XBMC as default dash with the linux XBE on eject - open tray boot together.
a. Suggest you focus on getting XBMC as default dash working first.
b. Your current dash should be in e:\dash. The default.xbe would be either EvoX or unleashX.
c. Let's say XBMC is in E:\apps\XBMC for example. Then you copy all the files in E:\apps\XBMC to E:\dash.
So the dash becomes XBMC's default.xbe. If you don't understand, ask first before you do it.

I hope this is clear enough.

swap in the defualt.xbe that nkp11 made to the "dash" directory and i should be good to go??

No. That will mess up your softmod. If you don't have E:\NKP11, you are likely using an older version of Kingroach Ndure - Ndure 3.0. The latest is Ndure 3.1 which has E:\NKP11. Forget about the nkp11's default.xbe for now. Focus on booting up to XBMC first.

NO
don't do that
NKPatcher is on the real C:\ and you don't need to mess with it
use a runtime config file placed in E:\NKP11 at boot it will look for the file and if found use it

thats why you should use E:\NKP11\NKP11_config_open.bin it will only affect booting from
eject button and if you screw it up you can still boot with power and fix the config file

NOTE: if you do have NDURE 3.0 then just put that file in the root of E:\

I really dont think it is as easy as plug and play with a non xbox drive.I tried before it didnt work.I think in order for it to work you would have to pop the drive apart find the eject, trim, trout, and ready signal and attach them to the correct wires on the yellow dvd cable wire that connects to the xbox's mobo.I dont think the xboxes will be able to tell when the dvd drive is opening or closing or ready to play its contents without this function.
I could be wrong anybody feel free to correct me if I am.

OK last update on this particular xbox... I got the dvd drive settled it just needed a small pot adjustment.
I would still like to hear what the "fan favorite" or at least a decent drive to put in this thing or I might just not even use it at all. I also managed to get the new 120 gig drive installed here's how ...

first I popped out the current drive with all setting just how I like it.. used xboxhdm to unlock it.
loaded xp brought up xplorer360 and made an image of the drive.
I got out the new drive booted into xboxhdm again formatted the partitions to fatx this step is needed as xplorer360 wont read the drive unless you format with a fatx partitions.
I went back to xp loaded the drive up in xplorer360 and restored the image I made of the 8 gig drive to it.
I rebooted loaded up xboxhdm installed the f partition, locked the drive installed it into my xbox and voila booted just fine!
I know I probably went the long way round but hey... whatever works for ya!
