Hirai reassures 40GB PS3 owners

From mcvuk.com:
Quote

Talking in the wake of SCEE's announcement that it would be phasing the 40GB model out in Europe to make room for a new 80GB SKU - Hirai's personal idea - he added that the move was proof of PS3's ability to ‘evolve'.

Hirai told MCV:
"The PS3 is a console that evolves and specifications will change over time. Ultimately, if the consumers require a higher capacity hard drive, the ability to do that is there.
"40GB is obviously less than 80GB, but it's still a high number and a very powerful machine. We strive to evolve and offer the most compelling value we can at any point in time. If consumers require extra hard drive, they can just swap it out.

They really need to fix the way partitioning works.  I bought a 320 gig drive with the goal of using PS3 Linux as my main desktop, but I'm only allowed to make two partitions, and one of them has to be exactly 10 gigs.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I'm on day 5 of a 10 gig PS3 partition.  I have GTA IV and about 3 demos installed and my drive is already full.  I'm not even going to bother trying with only 10 gigs for linux, I know that won't work.  I kinda knew I was kidding myself though, I was so pissed when I saw the partition options in XMB..  lol

Upping the HDD size for the PS3 just doesn't seem as big a deal as if the 360 did it.  I can go out right now and pick up a 300G ($150) drive for it.  If I want to spend the big bucks for it I could get a 1T (I think I saw one for $500).

I was hoping that if I got a bigger drive it would open up more options than 10G.  I figured it was a percentage of your drive. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
