Flashed m8 on the xbox and now the error13 turns into an error16 from the factory error screen that evoxm8 puts out.

That's odd? That means it cant be the bios as the HDD is still not being read.

If you just have the HDD on the cable and disconnect the DVD, what error do you get?

It does not look like m8 has the dvd loop it freezes up in the flubber like a broken record.
4981 on tsop boots to the blue x and does nothing the led just flashes green
flashbios now can unlock and lock drive
Just seems to be a problem with the xbox not being able to read from the ide cable.

Flashbios can lock and unlock the drive...

Can you flash a bios from cd in flashbios?
Did you try a different DVD drive?

I have done a little research and put cromwell on the xbox to see if I can get something going in that direction.Since it will boot I am already one step further there. The screen says no mbr which I read up on to come to the conclusion that this is somekind of bootloader error and can be corrected to maybe atleast get the xbox running as a pc.I also read on the history of hacking the xbox to get a better idea on how the software end of things works.
I have to be able to be getting somekind of read from the ide devices because cromwell sees the devices to the model #'s and can even flash the eeprom or lock and unlock the hdd.
I have not tried a disk yet I dont even know how linux works enough yet to make a bootable disk for it.
I think the problem lies maybe in this secret rom the xbox has or one of the bootloaders that work with it that is located in the mcpx chip has become corrupted or something.Maybe since cromwell uses no microsoft code if it is a software issue maybe it can be bypassed to function as a computer it would beat scraping a perfectly good pc and give me another different kind of toy to play with.

I've got a hunch error 16 is supposed to over ride all other errors. Do you also get that with a stock MS BIOS?

I have not tried the stock bios as of yet but it should be no big deal to do as long as when flashbios locks the drive with the eeprom on the board that was flashed from its bios but I am not for certain it does I think I tried to lock the drive and booted to an error6 from 4981.
