Lockable?

Search the product manuals for "ATA security" , "security lock", "security erase", "Security disable". If you find them and the related sections say the ATA commands are supported, it means the drives are lockable.

If your using it on a modchip of some sort it doesent matter since you dont have to have it locked in order to use on a chipped box. anything else like a softmod, just go by what Idotsfan says

ATA 133 is supported by Xbox, you can get a cable off Llamma.com for it. Don't know if it matters with the stock IDE cable, it shouldn't though. In theory having an F+G drive would run slower because, two different places to search for different data, rather than one. The speed wouldn't be noticable though.

Well the stock IDE isn't 133, but I always get 133 cables off Llamma, as it is noticable how much faster it is. You shouldn't have to buy a new cable though, and if you do, you know where to get it. I'm sure someone can clear that up for you.

I use slayers to prepare 500gig+ drives, as long as it isn't SATA then you don't gotta worry bout corruption.

Err, I'm pretty sure Slayers doesn't even have a copy of XBPartitioner on it. You need to use that on partitions larger then 256gb or you will get data corruption eventually.

On the other hand, Slayers isn't much good here anyway (as unless a system is hard modded, it won't boot the disc until a softmod is already setup on the drive). You'll likely be using XBoxHDM for this.

There's a new "in testing" version you might like to take a look at, unlike the current build it attempts to deal with the corruption issues without relying on the user to re-format the drive with XBPartitioner later:

The ST3500841A 500GB has "Security Disable Password, Security Erase Prepare, Security Erase Unit, Security Freeze, Security Set Password and Security Unlock." So it's safe to say it's lockable?

Yes, based on what you described, it's lockable. Security Disable Password, Security Set Password and Security  Unlock are the ATA commands sent by the xbox kernel.

I have not been able to find any info about the WD Scorpio 2.5" 320GB hdd being able to work in the xbox, nor have I been able to find out if it is lockable. I know that they use the scorpio line as a 360 hdd with thespecialist's hddhacker, but not sure if that means it can work in the xbox. Does anyone know if it works? Btw, I plan to use this sata->ide converter.  From reading the posts above I have not been able to find any of the keywords... so am I to assume no unless someone knows better?

That one doesn't work above.  I think the Samsung Spinpoint M - HM320JI should work.  320gb, 2.5", ATA Security Mode Feature Set.
