I agree that they need to look more at quarterly sales as opposed to month to month (or worse: week to week)
A month or week selling slightly better than your competitors wont win you any market races.
Sony is in a good spot right now and they could make the most of it ... but only if they act.
They have a small collection of decent exclusives now, they just won the HD disc format war, and we've been hearing lots about how manufacturing costs have been cut almost in half.
with MGS and GTAIV around the corner and both MS and Nintendo low on supplies it's a prime opportunity for Sony to make a big move like a $50-$100 price cut across the board.
That will spur sales for their console as a BRD player and those who want to play the upcoming releases and can't find the other consoles will have a much easier time choosing the PS3 as their platform for this generation.

As for my own console.... I ordered an Elite online and had it shipped overnight, it should get here Monday or Tuesday. I'm shipping my old one back to MS anyway. I figure I can tool around with the old one and try out some of the homebrew that is starting to pop up.
I've wanted an Elite for some time but couldn't justify buying one... this just gave me an excuse.
I'll probably buy a PS3 in the near future since the format war is over and I'll need a Blu-Ray player though with the rumored new units coming soon as well as the rumored price drop around the release of MGS and GTA, I think I'll hold on a little longer.
