No Hdmi Output?
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:23:00 PM »

I am recently having issues getting my PS3 to display via the HDMI cable.
It's an original 60GB model.  I had it hooked up to my 60" Sony SXRD tv (via HDMI) and it worked fine.  I moved it over to my 50" Panasonic and used the component cables on that TV.  When I went to put it back on the Sony TV, I couldn't get it to display when I changed the display to HDMI.  I've tried having the component cables attached at the same time and holding down the power button to initiate the display reset.  It tells me that it detects an HDMI cable is connected and asks if I want to use it, but when I choose that (and switch my TV to the appropriate channel), I get no picture.  After a few moments, I can go back to the component channel and the PS3 has gone back to displaying via component.

Anyone else experience similar issues?

Not identical but the firmware before last my PS3 randomly didn't hold HDMI settings. Cured with the new update that followed.
Other than that i have heard nothing
Go manually into settings and set all the options for HDMI including the HDMI audio options.
Remove the component then and simply have the HDMI cable in.

I thought you had to have both cables plugged in on the same TV and then change the setting to preferred connection then unplug the ones you don't need..

Isn't that what I just said (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

You can actually just boot with the HDMI connection in and it detects the HDMI and brings up the settings.
It is necessary to go through every setting doing it that way in order to save the settings.

Thanks for the tips guys.  I tried again to get it to display via HDMI and had no luck.
I tried multiple HDMI cables, multiple TVs and resetting the display settings, so it seems to be something with the PS3.  I was going to try to restore the OS, but that would clear all my saves.
Damn, I was proud that the PS3 seemed so stable (yet I'm on my 4th xbox360).
Fortunately, I called SCEA and they will repair it under warranty even though I purchased it back in Nov 06. Thank goodness I still had the receipt!
Since I'm sure they'll wipe the system (or give me a different system) I may try to restore the OS anyway and see if it works.

159 systems, they usually have one of three things. Won't power on, no video output, or disc read error. Of course nowhere near the 400+ 360's you can find, but still quite a few considering that there is lots less PS3's in  NA.

I clicked on 15 systems at random and read details. only 1 was no video and certainly not the fault this guy is referring to. His is losing video settings for HDMI output.
I was hoping to buy one like that and use it via component (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
